A mixed effect model for bivariate meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy studies using a copula representation of the random effects distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Diagnostic test accuracy studies typically report the number of true positives, false positives, true negatives and false negatives. There usually exists a negative association between the number of true positives and true negatives, because studies that

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Enhancing Cardiovascular Risk Prediction: Development of an Advanced Xgboost Model with Hospital-Level Random Effects

open access: yesBioengineering
Background: Ensemble tree-based models such as Xgboost are highly prognostic in cardiovascular medicine, as measured by the Clinical Effectiveness Metric (CEM). However, their ability to handle correlated data, such as hospital-level effects, is limited.

Parameter Estimation and Change Detection in Linear Regression Models Using Mixed Integer Linear Programming

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2009
We present a method for detecting changes and estimating parameters in AR(X) models. The method is based on the assumption of piecewise constant parameters resulting in a sparse structure of their ...

A Revisit to the Application of Weighted Mixed Regression Estimation in Linear Regression Models with Missing Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
This paper deals with the application of the weighted mixed regression estimation of the coefficients in a linear model when some values of some of the regressors are missing.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Location–scale models in ecology and evolution: Heteroscedasticity in continuous, count and proportion data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Biological data often violate the assumption of constant variance, yet such heteroscedasticity can reflect meaningful biological processes such as plasticity, canalization or stress responses. Despite this, most models treat variance as statistical noise.

Using multi-temporal Landsat imagery and linear mixed models for assessing water quality parameters in Río Tercero reservoir (Argentina)

open access: yes, 2015
The application of remote sensing technology to water quality monitoring has special significance for lake management at regional scales. Many studies have proposed algorithms between Landsat data and in-situ water quality parameters using classical ...
