Accelerated biological aging, healthy behaviors, and genetic susceptibility with incidence of stroke and its subtypes: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 4, April 2025.
This study identifies a significant association between accelerated biological aging, measured by clinical biomarker‐based KDM‐BA and PhenoAge accelerations, and an increased risk of stroke and its subtypes. The combination of accelerated biological aging with high genetic risk helps identify high‐risk populations on stroke development.

Causal Analysis Between Gut Microbes, Aging Indicator, and Age‐Related Disease, Involving the Discovery and Validation of Biomarkers

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
A comprehensive causal effect analysis was used to illustrate the associations between gut microbiota, aging indicators, and age‐related diseases. This study provides evidence that supports the association between the gut microbiota and aging and highlights the potential of genetic correlation and causal relationship analysis in biomarker discovery ...

Moderation of treatment outcomes by polygenic risk for alcohol‐related traits in placebo‐controlled trials of topiramate

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
In a secondary analysis of data from two randomized controlled trials of topiramate in 285 individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD), measures of genetic risk for problematic alcohol use (PAU) and time to relapse to any drinking (TR) and heavy drinking (THR) significantly moderated topiramate's effect on alcohol‐related problems.

Multi‐ancestry genome‐wide association study of topiramate's effects on heavy alcohol use

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Topiramate reduces alcohol consumption, but genetic predictors of treatment response have not been identified. We conducted a GWAS in 8386 individuals from the Million Veteran Program, evaluating genetic variants associated with the change in alcohol consumption before and after initiating topiramate.

Habitat Quality and Water Availability Affect Genetic Connectivity of Platypus Across an Urban Landscape

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We developed a set of innovative landscape resistance models to identify how climatic, topographic and vegetation variables influenced gene flow in the iconic Australian platypus across a 300 km2 urbanised landscape. Our research identified topographic wetness, rainfall and vegetation cover as consistently important for maintaining landscape‐scale gene

Disentangling the effects of nicotine versus non‐nicotine constituents of tobacco smoke on major depressive disorder: A multivariable Mendelian randomisation study

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 120, Issue 6, Page 1240-1252, June 2025.
Abstract Background and aims There is growing evidence that tobacco smoking causes depression, but it is unclear which constituents of tobacco smoke (e.g. nicotine, carbon monoxide) may be responsible. We used Mendelian randomisation (MR) to measure the independent effect of nicotine on depression, by adjusting the effect of circulating nicotine ...

Tuta absoluta's population genetic structure across Africa: Two well‐delineated but weakly differentiated groups suggesting few introductions and significant gene flow Structure génétique des populations de Tuta absoluta à travers l'Afrique: deux groupes bien délimités mais faiblement différenciés suggérent peu d'introductions et un flux génétique important

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 2, Page 223-240, May 2025.
Abstract Describing the genetic structure and diversity of invasive insect pest populations is essential to better understand a species' invasion history and success throughout its distribution range. Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera, Gelechiidae) is a destructive pest of tomato and many other solanaceous crops, with very high economic impacts. Its
