Exploiting Bioprocessing Fluctuations to Elicit the Mechanistics of De Novo Lipogenesis in Yarrowia lipolytica. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Despite substantial achievements in elucidating the metabolic pathways of lipogenesis, a mechanistic representation of lipid accumulation and degradation has not been fully attained to-date.

Development of a novel tocopheryl ester for suppression of lipid accumulation without cytotoxicity by optimization of dicarboxylic ester moiety

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2022
Tocopheryl succinate (Tsuc) is a succinic acid ester of the well-known antioxidant α-tocopherol (T). Tsuc exhibits various biological activities, including tumor growth suppression via activation of cell signaling and prevention of lipid accumulation in ...

Studies on ferrous ion-induced lipid peroxidation of rat liver mitochondria. I. Effect of inorganic phosphate

open access: yes, 1974
Effect of inorganic phosphate on ferrous ion- and ascorbate-induced lipid. peroxidations of isolated rat liver mitochondria was investigated. As a result it has been shown that phosphate accelerates the ferrous ion.induced lipid peroxidation; namely ...

Pea Albumin Alleviates Oleic Acid-Induced Lipid Accumulation in LO2 Cells Through Modulating Lipid Metabolism and Fatty Acid Oxidation Pathways

open access: yesFoods
Excessive lipid accumulation in the liver can cause NAFLD, leading to chronic liver injury. To relieve liver lipid accumulation by dietary proteins, this study used oleic acid (OA) induction to establish a stable in vitro LO2 cell lipid accumulation ...

Ginsenoside Rb1 Enhances Atherosclerotic Plaque Stability by Improving Autophagy and Lipid Metabolism in Macrophage Foam Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2017
Atherosclerosis (AS) is a lipid-driven disease in which macrophage foam cells play a critical role by increasing vascular lipid accumulation and contributing to plaque instability. Ginsenoside Rb1 (Rb1), the most abundant active component of ginseng, has

The effect of chitooligosaccharides on oleic acid-induced lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells

open access: yesSaudi Pharmaceutical Journal, 2016
This experiment aimed to evaluate the capacities of two types of chitooligosaccharides (COS) with different molecular weights for the ability to eliminate lipid accumulation in hepatocytes.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Adipocyte Stiffness Increases with Accumulation of Lipid Droplets [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2014
Adipogenesis and increase in fat tissue mass are mechanosensitive processes and hence should be influenced by the mechanical properties of adipocytes. We evaluated subcellular effective stiffnesses of adipocytes using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and interferometric phase microscopy (IPM), and we verified the empirical results using finite element (FE)

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Activation of LAMP1-mediated lipophagy by sulforaphane inhibits cellular senescence and intervertebral disc degeneration

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Translation
Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a major cause of chronic low back pain, involving lipid dysregulation and cellular senescence in nucleus pulposus (NP) cells.
