Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.

Specialised lipid mediators and their targets

Seminars in Immunology, 2015
Inflammation is a complex process governed by the interaction of multiple cell types of the innate immune system and secreted mediators. Such mediators may act in a paracrine or autocrine fashion on target effector cells. An appropriate inflammatory response is characterised by dynamically regulated initiation, propagation and eventual resolution and ...

Lipid Mediators of Insulin Resistance

Nutrition Reviews, 2007
Lipid abnormalities such as obesity, increased circulating free fatty acid levels, and excess intramyocellular lipid accumulation are frequently associated with insulin resistance. These observations have prompted investigators to speculate that the accumulation of lipids in tissues not suited for fat storage (e.g., skeletal muscle and liver) is an ...

Lipid Mediators of Inflammation

Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North America, 1987
Many mediators of inflammation are derived from phospholipids and polyunsaturated fatty acids, including prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and platelet-activating factor. These mediators augment the vascular phase of inflammation and modify functions of inflammatory cells and cells of the immune system.
