A plasma membrane microdomain compartmentalizes ephrin-generated cAMP signals to prune developing retinal axon arbors

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
The development of neuronal circuits is controlled by guidance molecules that are hypothesized to interact with the cholesterol-enriched domains of the plasma membrane termed lipid rafts.

Molecular dynamics exploration of poration and leaking caused by Kalata B1 in HIV-infected cell membrane compared to host and HIV membranes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The membrane disruption activities of kalata B1 (kB1) were investigated using molecular dynamics simulations with membrane models. The models were constructed to mimic the lipid microdomain formation in membranes of HIV particle, HIV-infected cell, and ...

Contributions of quantitative proteomics to understanding membrane microdomains

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2009
Membrane microdomains, e.g., lipid rafts and caveolae, are crucial cell surface organelles responsible for many cellular signaling and communication events, which makes the characterization of their proteomes both interesting and valuable. They are large

Coronavirus Interplay With Lipid Rafts and Autophagy Unveils Promising Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Coronaviruses are enveloped, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA viruses that can infect animal and human hosts. The infection induces mild or sometimes severe acute respiratory diseases.

Activation of Lysosomal Retrograde Transport Triggers TPC1‐IP3R1 Ca2+ Crosstalk at Lysosome‐ER MCSs Leading to Lethal Depleting of ER Calcium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The flavonoid compound LW‐213 exerts its antitumor effects through a novel mechanism involving lysosomal‐ER calcium regulation. Specifically, LW‐213 binds to LIMP2, which induces perinuclear clustering of lysosomes and facilitates calcium‐mediated lysosome‐ER interactions.

Protein-sphingolipid interactions within cellular membraness⃞

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2008
Each intracellular organelle critically depends on maintaining its specific lipid composition that in turn contributes to the biophysical properties of the membrane.

Myocyte membrane and microdomain modifications in diabetes: determinants of ischemic tolerance and cardioprotection

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2017
Cardiovascular disease, predominantly ischemic heart disease (IHD), is the leading cause of death in diabetes mellitus (DM). In addition to eliciting cardiomyopathy, DM induces a ‘wicked triumvirate’: (i) increasing the risk and incidence of IHD and ...

Tumor Extracellular Vesicles Aggravate Mitochondrial Damage in Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a novel mechanistic connection between cancer and ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)‐induced cardiac injury. The meta‐analysis demonstrates significantly higher incidence ratios of both all‐cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in cancer patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) compared to non‐cancer patients.

Functions of lipid raft membrane microdomains at the blood–brain barrier [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Medicine, 2009
The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a highly specialized structural and functional component of the central nervous system that separates the circulating blood from the brain and spinal cord parenchyma. Brain endothelial cells (BECs) that primarily constitute the BBB are tightly interconnected by multiprotein complexes, the adherens junctions and the ...
