Human Peripheral Myelin Protein 2 and Charcot–Marie–Tooth Disease or Structural Missense Variants Show Different Binding to Myelin‐Like Lipid Monolayers

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 8, April 2026.
We compare the membrane affinity of the P2 myelin protein and its Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease variants on a myelin‐like lipid monolayer. Epifluorescence microscopy reveals different two‐dimensional (2D) clustering and pressure‐dependent binding. Single‐point mutations in the P2 β‐barrel and α‐helix affect affinity.

Look Who Is Talking: Extracellular Vesicles as Mediators of Intercellular and Interorgan Communication

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) mediate intercellular and interorgan communication during both physiological and pathological conditions. EVs include exosomes, ectosomes, and apoptotic bodies and contain bioactive molecules. EVs are delivered to proximal cells or can travel in bodily fluids and reach distant organs, where they trigger a response from the ...

Heart–Lung Interactions in Gas Exchange: From Physiology to Pathophysiology

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
This review outlines factors compromising the efficiency of alveolar gas exchange. Perturbation in lung fluid balance from capillary and alveolar sources is considered. Safety factors against edema formation are presented. A model is presented to describe gas diffusion limitation considering pulmonary fibrosis, lung resection, heart failure syndromes ...

RBFOX1 Dysfunction Unlocks APOE4‐Associated Microglial Genesis and Exacerbates Alzheimer's Pathology in Human Cerebral Organoids

open access: yesExploration, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
Genomic studies implicate RBFOX1 in Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk, highlighting the need to define its role and interactions with other risk factors. Here, CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated RBFOX1 loss in APOE4 human cerebral organoids induces autonomous microglial genesis and accelerates AD pathology, revealing a protective role of RBFOX1 and establishing a model ...

The Role of Gut Microbiome in Obesity and Weight Management: A Review of Current Evidence and Future Directions

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
The gut microbiome is critical in controlling host metabolism and body weight. Gut microbial composition and functionality are regulated by external factors such as diet, exercise, medications, and surgical procedures. The microbiome, in turn, affects energy balance, fat storage, and metabolic processes, leading to the development of obesity and weight
