Advancing the Landscape of RNAi Nanotherapeutics for Ischemic Heart Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
RNA interference (RNAi) nanomedicine revolutionizes treatment regimens for ischemic heart diseases by enabling tailored, sequence‐anchored gene regulation. This review highlights the recent advances in nanotechnology‐driven RNAi therapeutics for myocardial ischemia and discusses the key design principles that govern efficient delivery, providing ...

An equation for estimating low-density lipoprotein-triglyceride content and its use for cardiovascular disease risk stratification

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundThe triglyceride (TG) content of low-density lipoprotein (LDL-TG) has been shown to be more predictive of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events than the cholesterol content of LDL (LDL-C). The goal of our study was to develop an

A computational model for the analysis of lipoprotein distributions in the mouse: translating FPLC profiles to lipoprotein metabolism.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2014
Disturbances of lipoprotein metabolism are recognized as indicators of cardiometabolic disease risk. Lipoprotein size and composition, measured in a lipoprotein profile, are considered to be disease risk markers.

Effects of high sucrose diet, gemfibrozil, and their combination on plasma paraoxonase 1 activity and lipid levels in rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We investigated the influence of high sucrose diet (HSD) after 3 or 5 weeks of administration on paraoxonase 1 (PON1) activity in plasma of normolipidemic rats and the relationship between serum PON1 activity, triacylglycerides (TGs), HDL and total ...

Different Effects of Maternal Low-Isoflavone Soy Protein and Genistein Consumption on Hepatic Lipid Metabolism of 21-Day-Old Male Rat Offspring. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Amino acid composition and isoflavone are alleged contributors to the beneficial effects of soy protein isolate (SPI) on lipid metabolism. Therefore, we investigated the contributing component(s) of SPI in a maternal diet to the regulation of lipid ...

Disengaging the Engine: Histone Deacetylases 1 and 2‐Mediated Acetylation of Hexokinase‐2 Regulates Energy Metabolism in Microglia Following Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that HDAC1/2 knockout in microglia alleviates neurological deficits, preserves white matter, and accelerates hematoma clearance after ICH. HDAC1/2 inhibition reduces HK2 acetylation, shifts metabolism from glycolysis to fatty acid oxidation, reduces inflammation, and enhances phagocytosis.

An improved method for estimating low LDL-C based on the enhanced Sampson-NIH equation

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease
Background The accurate measurement of Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is critical in the decision to utilize the new lipid-lowering therapies like PCSK9-inhibitors (PCSK9i) for high-risk cardiovascular disease patients that do not achieve ...

Lipoprotein lipase regulates hematopoietic stem progenitor cell maintenance through DHA supply

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) hydrolyzes triglycerides to supply free fatty acids (FFAs) to muscle for energy and adipocytes for storage. Here, the authors demonstrate that Lpl and its product, the FFA docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are required for ...

Birth outcome in relation to licorice consumption during pregnancy.

open access: yes, 2001
A role for glucocorticoids is suspected in the etiology of low birth weight. The authors tested whether maternal consumption of glycyrrhizin (an inhibitor of cortisol metabolism) in licorice affects birth weight in humans. A sample of 1,049 Finnish women
