The Lipoprotein Receptor Concept

Drugs, 1988
The interaction of plasma lipoproteins with mammalian cells is facilitated by specific receptors on the cell surface. The chylomicron remnant receptor recognises apolipoprotein E (apo E) and mediates the uptake of chylomicron remnants by the liver. The low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor recognises lipoproteins containing apolipoprotein B100 or an ...

Cellular signalling by lipoprotein receptors

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2000
Lipoprotein receptors are commonly thought merely to mediate the internalization of lipoprotein particles or the exchange of lipids at the cell surface. Recent findings have now implicated these multifunctional receptors in cellular signalling mechanisms that extend beyond simple ligand endocytosis.

Lipoprotein Receptors and Endothelial Cells

Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, 1988
The interaction of lipoproteins with endothelial receptors can result in alterations in macromolecular transport, in changes in monocyte adherence to the endothelium, and in the production of monocyte chemotactic factor by the endothelium. Monocyte migration in response to such factors can further alter lipoprotein transport into the subendothelial ...

Lipoprotein receptors and atherosclerosis

Biochemical Society Transactions, 1989
The whole lipoprotein spectrum of human plasma may be divided into atherosclerotic and anti-atherosclerotic lipoproteins. To the first class belong apolipoprotein (apo) B and some apoE-containing lipoproteins of the very-low-density (VLDL), intermediate-density (IDL) and low-density (LDL) lipoprotein fractions.

Lipophorin receptor: The insect lipoprotein receptor

Resonance, 2013
The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), one of the best characterized cell-surface receptors, mediates cholesterol homeostasis and other functions in mammals. The members of the LDLR superfamily are structurally related and characterized by distinct functional domains.

Lipoprotein - receptor interactions

1992
Abstract The interaction of lipoproteins with their receptors is the first step of a homeostatic mechanism that controls plasma cholesterol levels, intracellular cholesterol metabolism, and lipoprotein catabolism. The classic studies of M. S. Brown and J. L. Goldstein (Univ.

Lipoprotein receptors in perspective

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 1992
Recent findings regarding mutant founder genes, structure/function relationships and regulation of the LDL receptor are reviewed. New aspects regarding the control of the LDL receptor-related protein are presented. The structure and function of the scavenger receptor and the physiological role of the HDL receptor are considered.

Hypertriglyceridemia: Lipoprotein Receptors and Atherosclerosis

1985
We have shown first, that apoB mediates the binding of small VLDL Sf 20-60 and IDL, as well as LDL, to the LDL receptor. Second, apoE of an appropriate, accessible conformation is required for the binding of large VLDL to the LDL receptor; HTG-VLDL Sf greater than 60 but not normal VLDL Sf greater than 60 have this apoE population.

The low density lipoprotein receptor

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Reviews on Biomembranes, 1989
The study of familial hypercholesterolemia at the molecular level has led to its advancement from a clinical syndrome to a fascinating experimental system. FH was first described 50 years ago by Carl Müller who concluded that the disease produces high plasma cholesterol levels and myocardial infarctions in young people, and is transmitted as an ...
