Lipoproteins inhibit macrophage activation by lipoteichoic acid

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
Regulation of lipid metabolism during infection is thought to be part of host defense, as lipoproteins neutralize endotoxin (LPS) and viruses. Gram-positive infections also induce disturbances in lipid metabolism.

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Microvillar channels: a unique plasma membrane compartment for concentrating lipoproteins on the surface of rat adrenal cortical cells.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1989
Electron microscopic studies of perfused rat adrenals indicate that plasma lipoproteins become concentrated in a specialized cell surface compartment called microvillar channels.

Computational Modelling of Atherosclerosis

open access: yes, 2015
Atherosclerosis is one of the principle pathologies of cardiovascular disease with blood cholesterol a significant risk factor. The World Health Organisation estimates that approximately 2.5 million deaths occur annually due to the risk from elevated ...

Dietary Baicalin Supplementation Can Enhance the Growth Performance of Weaned Piglets and Maintain the Intestinal Barrier Integrity

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This research innovatively illustrates baicalin’s multifaceted mechanisms in enhancing piglets’ intestinal health: modulating bile acid metabolism via probiotics, reinforcing tight junction proteins (ZO‐1/claudin), suppressing TLR4/NF‐κB‐mediated inflammation, whereas promoting growth and reducing diarrhea.

Biosynthesis of lymph and plasma lipoprotein apoproteins by isolated perfused rat liver and intestine

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1973
The ability of rat intestine and liver to synthesize the various apoproteins of plasma lipoproteins was investigated. After the individual isolated organs were perfused with blood containing [3H]lysine, chylomicrons plus very low density lipoproteins ...

Exploring the Roles of Tuna‐Associated Acinetobacter sp. YFT067: Implications for Host Health and Metabolism

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study firstly isolated a tuna‐derived gut probiotic Acinetobacter seifertii YFT067. Dietary administration of YFT067 played significant roles in promoting growth performance, SCFAs production, lipid absorption, and metabolism of the host, indicating YFT067 as a promising probiotic candidate for enhancing tuna aquaculture productivity through ...

Determination of high density lipoprotein-cholesterol in human plasma stored at -70 degrees C

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1982
We determined the effect of storage at -70 degrees C on the determination of plasma high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol. Plasma from 106 subjects was stored for 1, 6, and 12 months, then treated with heparin and MnCl2 to remove other lipoproteins,
