Mixed cationic liposomes for brain delivery of drugs by the intranasal route: the acetylcholinesterase reactivator 2-PAM as encapsulated drug model [PDF]
New mixed cationic liposomes based on L-{\alpha}-phosphatidylcholine and dihexadecylmethylhydroxyethylammonium bromide (DHDHAB) were designed to overcome the BBB crossing by using the intranasal route. Synthesis and self-assembly of DHDHAB were performed.

Nanotribology of biopolymer brushes in aqueous solution using dissipative particle dynamics simulations: an application to PEG covered liposomes in theta solvent [PDF]
We undertake the investigation of sheared polymer chains grafted on flat surfaces to model liposomes covered with polyethylene glycol brushes as a case study for the mechanisms of efficient drug delivery in biologically relevant situations, for example, as carriers for topical treatments of illnesses in the human vasculature.

Membrane fusion of secretory vesicles and liposomes Two different types of fusion [PDF]
Secretory vesicles isolated from adrenal medulla were found to fuse in vitro in response to incubation with Ca2+. Intervesicular fusion was detected by electron microscopy and was indicated by the appearance of twinned vesicles in freeze-fractured ...

Liposomes versus metallic nanostructures: differences in the process of knowledge translation in cancer [PDF]
This research maps the knowledge translation process for two different types of nanotechnologies applied to cancer: liposomes and metallic nanostructures (MNs). We performed a structural analysis of citation networks and text mining supported in controlled vocabularies.

The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

Study of macroscopic and microscopic properties of liposomes produced using microfluidic methods [PDF]
For the last decades, lipid vesicles or liposomes, vesicles formed by a bilayer of amphiphilic lipids, have been used as a toy model for studying the cell membrane and for applications in cosmetics and drug delivery.

To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...
