Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Automated processing of whole blood samples for the determination of immunosuppressants by liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Background: Liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is an efficient technology for routine determination of immunosuppressants in whole blood; however, time-consuming manual sample preparation remains a significant limitation of this ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Extraction of Diterpenoid Lactones of Andrographis paniculata using Liquid Solvents: Effect of Solvent’s Hildebrand Solubility Parameter on Extraction Efficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Two diterpenoid lactones responsible to the multi healing properties of Andrographis paniculata have been extracted using 16 different liquid solvents. The effect of Hildebrand solubility parameter of the solvents on solid-liquid extraction yield using ...

A New Bubbling Extraction Tower: Toward Liquid-Liquid Solvent Extraction at Large Aqueous-to-Oil Phase Ratios

open access: yes, 2015
Enrichment and recovery of valuable components in industrial waste waters by traditional liquid-liquid solvent extraction is not economic due to extremely low concentrations of those targets. Large-phase-ratio extraction exhibits potential advantages for

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Investigation on hollow fiber based liquid-liquid-liquid micro-extraction with different driving forces

open access: yes, 2011
In recent years, hollow fiber based liquid-liquid-liquid micro-extraction (HF-LLLME) [1] has been widely studied due to its higher enrichment factor, excellent ability of clean-up, and lower consumption of organic solvent.

Solid–liquid transport in a modified co-rotating twin-screw extruder-dynamic simulator and experimental validations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This work presents a dynamic transport model of a solid–liquid media through a twin-screw extruder (TSE). The application under consideration is the solid–liquid extraction of solute from raw plant substrate.
