In this study, the amphiphilic salt lithium trifluoromethanesulfonylimide octadecane (C18LiTFSI) was used as a basis to investigate the effects of anion density and cation coordination sites within blended electrolytes with strong ionic aggregation ...

Nematic liquid crystal devices with sub-millisecond response time [PDF]
Conventional nematic liquid crystal devices exhibit switching times that are in the order of several milliseconds. In this work we focus on two types of nematic liquid crystals that can overcome the limitations of conventional nematic liquid crystals and

Modeling Smectic Layers in Confined Geometries: Order Parameter and Defects
We identify problems with the standard complex order parameter formalism for smectic-A (SmA) liquid crystals, and discuss possible alternative descriptions of smectic order.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Observation of lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals droplets with the perpendicular boundary condition [PDF]
Department of PhysicsControlling anchoring conditions of liquid crystals (LCs) is crucial for the study of liquid crystals and development of liquid crystals-based displays and sensors. Although many studies have been made on thermotropic liquid crystals,

Order and Frustration in Chiral Liquid Crystals [PDF]
This paper reviews the complex ordered structures induced by chirality in liquid crystals. In general, chirality favors a twist in the orientation of liquid-crystal molecules. In some cases, as in the cholesteric phase, this favored twist can be achieved

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Nanomaterials in Liquid Crystals as Ion-Generating and Ion-Capturing Objects
The majority of tunable liquid crystal devices are driven by electric fields. The performance of such devices can be altered by the presence of small amounts of ions in liquid crystals.

Use of frit-disc crucibles for routine and exploratory solution growth of single crystalline samples [PDF]
Solution growth of single crystals from high temperature solutions often involves the separation of residual solution from the grown crystals. For many growths of intermetallic compounds, this separation has historically been achieved with the use of ...
