Biomass DNA: An Emerging Building Block for Advanced Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Biomass DNA is rapidly emerging from its traditional role as a genetic blueprint to serve as a versatile abundant, highly programmable polymeric building block. This review highlights the transformation of macroscopic bulk biomass DNA into next generation of functional materials, spanning from dynamic hydrogels, sustainable bioplastics, and high ...

Vitamin C‐Induced Photo‐Redox Threshold Enables High‐Fidelity Volumetric Printing of Collagen

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Tomographic volumetric printing (TVP) of native proteins is limited by uncontrolled background crosslinking. Here, vitamin C is introduced as a biocompatible redox regulator to establish a tunable nonlinear polymerization threshold response for TVP.

Surface Functionalization Modulates Collective Cell Behavior Near Topological Defects Induced by Topographical Patterning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Strongly adhered cells align with concentric circular ridges and exhibit predominantly tangential motion, whereas weakly adhered cells fail to follow topographical guidance and display enhanced radial inward motion. ABSTRACT Living cells establish long‐range orientational order through collective alignment, giving rise to topological defects whose ...

Bilayered PEDOT:PSS–Collagen Scaffolds as Functional Architectures for Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A bilayered scaffold integrates collagen and PEDOT:PSS as distinct yet interconnected 3D matrices, preserving their fibrillar and conductive characteristics. Spatial compartmentalization enables independent tailoring of each domain while maintaining mechanical stability and compatibility with electrochemical monitoring, providing a multifunctional ...

Culinary Chemistry as a Platform for Interfacial Materials Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Culinary processes control interfaces through heating, shear, gelation, and molecular transport. This Review connects selected gastronomic examples with food‐derived nanomaterials, plasmonic sensing, anthocyanin photovoltaics, and intelligent packaging. Original agar‐based plasmonic films illustrate the proposed translation.

Large‐Scale and Cost‐Effective Fabrication of Ultra‐Thin, Biodegradable Microelectrode Arrays and Pressure Sensors Using Laser Micromachining

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A mask‐free and cost‐effective UV‐pico‐second laser‐based microfabrication method is proposed to fabricate large‐area biodegradable microelectrode arrays and pressure sensors. These devices demonstrate low impedance, good conformability, excellent biocompatibility, and rapid degradation, providing a new route for next‐generation transient electronics ...

National Culture and Bank Liquidity Creation

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2021
This paper investigates the relationship between national culture and cross-country variations in bank liquidity creation. We hypothesize that banks in individualistic societies create more liquidity because of risk-taking and overconfidence bias. On the other hand, a better access to soft information likely facilitates liquidity creation by banks in ...

Microcalorimetric Assessment of Liquid Culture Media

Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, Mikrobiologie und Hygiene. Series A: Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Virology, Parasitology, 1987
Microcalorimetry constitutes an analytic tool to register the heat effects produced by the metabolic processes taking place in a bacterial culture. Since these depend on the nutrients supplied in the media, microcalorimetry allows conclusions to be drawn about the nature and quality of the culture medium when using a standard germ.

Growing Bacteriophage M13 in Liquid Culture

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2017
Stocks of bacteriophage M13 are usually grown in liquid culture. The infected bacteria do not lyse but, instead, grow at a slower than normal rate to form a dilute suspension. The inoculum of bacteriophage is almost always a freshly picked plaque or a suspension of bacteriophage particles obtained from a single plaque, as described here. Infected cells

Liquid Culture Methods for the Production of Fumonisin

1996
Currently, fumonisin B1 is obtained primarily by using solid culture methods. Although fumonisin B1 concentrations obtained in solid culture are typically quite high, subsequent extraction and purification present problems. In addition, current methods utilize complex media which makes analysis of biosynthetic pathways and control mechanisms difficult.
