Formation and kinetics of transient metastable states in mixtures under coupled phase ordering and chemical demixing [PDF]
We present theory and simulation of simultaneous chemical demixing and phase ordering in a polymer-liquid crystal mixture in conditions where isotropic- isotropic phase separation is metastable with respect to isotropic-nematic phase transition.

Simulation and theory of fluid demixing and interfacial tension of mixtures of colloids and non-ideal polymers [PDF]
An extension of the Asakura-Oosawa-Vrij model of hard sphere colloids and non-adsorbing polymers, that takes polymer non-ideality into account through a repulsive stepfunction pair potential between polymers, is studied with grand canonical Monte Carlo ...

An Exactly Soluble Model of Directed Polymers with Multiple Phase Transitions
Polymer chains with hard-core interaction on a two-dimensional lattice are modeled by directed random walks. Two models, one with intersecting walks (IW) and another with non-intersecting walks (NIW) are presented, solved and compared. The exact solution

In situ analysis of solvent/nonsolvent exchange and phase separation processes during the membrane formation of polylactides [PDF]
Membrane formation of polylactides has been studied using in situ analysis techniques. An experimental method based on the use of dark ground optics and reflected light illumination is used to monitor the mass transfer and phase separation dynamics ...

Hybrid polymer electrolyte for Li–O2 batteries
Li–O2 batteries have attracted much attention because of their high specific energy. However, safety problem generated mainly from the flammable organic liquid electrolytes have hindered the commercial use of Li–O2 batteries.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
