A liquid hydrogen target for the calibration of the MEG and MEG II liquid xenon calorimeter

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2016
We designed, built and operated a liquid hydrogen target for the calibration of the liquid xenon calorimeter of the MEG experiment. The target was used throughout the entire data taking period, from 2008 to 2013 and it is being refurbished and partly re ...

A liquid deuterium target refrigerated by liquid hydrogen

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1962
A 310-cm/sup 3/ cell containing D/sub 2/ at 300 Torr is cooled by the evaporation of liquid H/sub 2/. The cooling process dissipates l.5 l of H/sub 2/ the first hour, and 0.15 l/hr thereafter. The D/sub 2/ cell is a Ni cylinder with several outer concentric cylindrical Cu radiation shields and an outer vacuum chamber.

A liquid hydrogen target for the MUSE experiment at PSI

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2020
A 280 ml liquid hydrogen target has been constructed and tested for the MUSE experiment at PSI to investigate the proton charge radius via simultaneous measurement of elastic muon-proton and elastic electron-proton scattering. To control systematic uncertainties at a sub-percent level, strong constraints were put on the amount of material surrounding ...

Liquid tritium target

Hyperfine Interactions, 1999
The concentration dependence study of the formation rate of the muon molecules dtμ in equilibrium double D/T and triple H/D/T liquid mixtures of hydrogen isotopes requires an installation consisting of a target of volume 30 cm3 with helium cooling and a thermostabilization system.

A liquid hydrogen-deuterium target

Cryogenics, 1980
Abstract The design of a liquid hydrogen-deuterium target is described in which the gas is liquefied at the expense of boiling off liquid He-vapour. A closed gas circulation system is used in the target; this increases the safety of operation and makes it easy to replace H 2 by D 2 .

Cyclotron production of 103Pd using a liquid target

Nuclear Medicine and Biology, 2023
In this work, we present the first feasibility study on the production of the medically important radionuclide 103Pd via the 103Rh(p,n)103Pd reaction by cyclotron irradiation of a liquid target. Using a liquid target removes the time consuming and complex dissolution process of rhodium post-irradiation due to its chemically inactive nature and thereby ...

Modular design for a liquid target

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
A modular target with varying depth has been designed and built to investigate density reduction in liquid targets. An interchangeable middle piece allows target depths from 7.5 to 52.5 mm. The target has been tested and found to be leak tight and functional.
