Chemical composition of Litomosoides carinii microfilarial sheaths
Acta Tropica, 1992Litomosoides carinii microfilariae were exsheathed by freezing and thawing, and the sheaths were separated by filtration. Samples of pure sheaths thus obtained were hydrolyzed, methanolyzed or oxidized with nitric acid under pressure at 300 degrees C, respectively, and were analyzed for amino acids, sugars, fatty acids or for metal ions and phosphorus.

Immunomodulatory effects in Litomosoides sigmodontis -infected Mastomys coucha
Parasitology Research, 2000The levels of parasite-specific IgG1 and IgG2 antibodies and mitogen-induced and parasite-specific proliferative T-cell responses were determined in Litomosoides sigmodontis-infected Mastomys coucha throughout an observation period of 400 days post infection (p.i.).

Amyloidosis in Mongolian Gerbils Infected with Litomosoides carinii
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1973SUMMARY Amyloidosis was detected in 12 of 17 Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) infected with the filarid, Litomosoides carina. Amyloid was deposited principally in the spleen, but also in the kidneys, liver, heart, pancreas, and intestines. Amyloid was diagnosed from specific staining reactions and fine structural characteristics.

Litomosoides carinii: Biogenic amines in microfilariae and adults
Experimental Parasitology, 1977Abstract The presence of biogenic amines has been shown in microfilariae and adults of Litomosoides carinii , the filarial parasite of the cotton rat, Sigmodon hispidus . The amine mosaic of microfilariae differed from that of the adults in that, while no dopamine could be detected in the former, the latter contained all the four amines studied in ...

Isolation of pure sheaths of Litomosoides carinii microfilariae
Parasitology Research, 1987A method is described for the isolation of pure, chemically intact sheaths of blood microfilariae of Litomosoides carinii. Microfilariae were isolated according to standard techniques. Exsheathment was performed by freezing-thawing-shaking procedures, repeated 5-10 times, i.e., larvae were frozen in liquid nitrogen, thawed at room temperature, and ...
