Effects of Dietary Pediococcus acidilactici and Isomaltooligosaccharide on Growth Performance, Immunity, and Antioxidant Defense in Juvenile Common Carp

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The aim of this study was to investigate the synbiotic effects of Pediococcus acidilactici (PA) and isomaltooligosaccharide (IMO) on the performance of juvenile common carp (Cyprinus carpio). A total of 360 fish (17.22 ± 0.19 g) were randomly divided into six groups with three replicates of 20 fish each. The trial continued for 8 weeks.

UDANG ROSTRIS (Litopenaeus stylirostris) KOMODITAS PROSPEKTIF BAGI USAHA PERTAMBAKAN

open access: yesJurnal Perikanan Universitas Gadjah Mada, 2004
Blue shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris) known as “SS” (Super Shrimp) originated as wild larvae from Panama, and is currently in its 22nd generation of domestication. They have undergone a systematic process of selection for enhancement of growth and fecundity, and in particular, for resistance improvement to the IHHN virus. The SS-blue shrimp are ...

Natural Biota’s Contribution to Cultured Aquatic Animals’ Growth in Aquaculture Cannot Be Ignored

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The rapid expansion of the aquaculture industry is accompanied by high organic and nutrient loadings from formulated feeds. This leads to water deterioration and pathogenic microorganisms. Natural biota (e.g., bacteria, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and zoobenthos) in ponds form important parts of cultured aquatic animals’ diets.

Genotyping of white spot syndrome virus on wild and farm crustaceans from Sonora, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2013
White spot syndrome is a viral disease affecting wild and farm crustaceans that serve as reservoirs. Previous reports have demonstrated high genomic variation in WSS viruses (WSSV) isolated from distinct geographical regions.

Increased tolerance of Litopenaeus vannamei to white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) infection after oral application of the viral envelope protein VP28 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
It has been generally accepted that invertebrates such as shrimp do not have an adaptive immune response system comparable to that of vertebrates.

Recent developments in male fertility evaluation, sperm cryopreservation and artificial fertilisation, and their potential application to decapod crustacean aquaculture

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 14, Issue 2, Page 848-889, March 2022., 2022
Abstract To maximise productivity, a better understanding of the underlying causes of subfertility that lead to inferior offspring and high mortality is imperative. In decapod crustaceans, most research has focused on female reproductive performance, with little attention given to male fertility.

Perspectives on the mangrove conundrum, land use, and benefits of yield intensification in farmed shrimp production: A review

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 53, Issue 1, Page 8-46, February 2022., 2022
Abstract Globally, shrimp farms occupied an estimated 3.490 million hectares (Mha) of land and operated 2.426 Mha of production ponds in 2018. Extensive shrimp farms used 1.804 Mha of farm area (1.377 Mha of production ponds), but produced 11.4% of global shrimp production.

Temporal variation in the abundance of postlarval and juvenile blue shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris) and brown shrimp (Farfantepenaeus californiensis) in the Colorado River estuary

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 2007
The temporal variation in the abundance and species composition of penaeid shrimp postlarvae and juveniles was studied in a tidal channel of the Colorado River estuary.

Rondonin: antimicrobial properties and mechanism of action

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 11, Issue 9, Page 2541-2559, September 2021., 2021
Rondonin's mechanism of action suggests yeast DNA/RNA binding, as it does not cause membrane disturbance. It acts synergistically with gomesin. It has superior action at pH 4 ˜ 5, and antiviral activity was detected against RNA viruses. This is the first report of an arthropod hemocyanin fragment with activity against human viruses. Adaptive evolution after duplication of penaeidin antimicrobial peptides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Penaeidin antimicrobial peptides in penaeid shrimps are an important component of their innate immune system that provides immunity against infection caused by several gram-positive bacteria and filamentous fungal species.
