Reproductive biology of little tunny,Euthynnus alletteratus(Rafinesque), from the north-eastern Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ichthyology, 2008
Summary The study aimed at identifying spawning season and potential year classes reaching maturity in the north-eastern Mediterranean, an area where little information on tuna spawning is available. Gonads (60 ovaries and 36 testis) were obtained from little tunny, Euthynnus alletteratus.

Accumulation of heavy metals in muscle, liver, and gonads of little tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus) from the western region of Algeria

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2018
Cadmium, lead, zinc, and copper levels were measured in muscle, liver, and gonads of little tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus) from the western region of Algeria. Relationships between heavy metals concentrations and age, sex, sexual maturity stages, and fish size were investigated.

Spermatogenesis in little tunny Euthynnus alletteratus (Rafinesque, 1810) fished on continental shelf of Côte d’Ivoire

Scientific Journal of Biological Sciences, 2017
Testes of 406 males little tunny ( Euthynnus alletteratus ), collected over a year period from an artisanal commercial fishery, were used to morphologically and histologically assess patterns of the reproductive biology in this small tuna. Most of the specimens examined ranged in size from 35 to 82 cm FL (centimetre fork length).

Feeding ecology of little tunny Euthynnus alletteratus in the central Mediterranean Sea

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2007
The feeding habits of Euthynnus alletteratus and its variations compared to predator size in the central Mediterranean Sea were investigated. The stomach contents of 187 specimens were analysed, ranging from 26.8 to 50.3 cm total length, caught by authorized experimental drift-nets.

Reproductive biology of little tunny Euthynnus alletteratus (Rafinesque, 1810) caught in Algerian waters

2019
Little tunny, Euthynnus alletteratus is one of the most abundant small tuna species in the Mediterranean Sea. This species is commercially exploited on the Algerian coast by artisanal fisheries. The aim of this study is to known biological features on this species in Algerian waters, such as sex-ratio, Gonad-Somatic Index (GSI), Hepatic-Somatic Index ...

Age and growth of little tunny, Euthynnus alletteratus (Rafinesque, 1810), from the Tunisian Mediterranean coasts

2012
Fin spine ageing is the most common technique used to estimate age and growth parameters of large pelagic fishes including the family of Scombridae. Age and growth of little tunny were estimated from seasonally formed bands on the first dorsal spines of 413 specimens of Euthynnus alletteratus (19.2-97.8 cm FL) collected in Tunisian waters from January ...

Preliminary observations on dominance of crustacean larvae in the diet of little tunny Euthynnus affinis (Cantor, 1849) caught off Chennai and Cuddalore coasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The food habits of little tunny Euthynnus affinis caught by hooks and line off Chennai and Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu were studied from December 2011 to August 2012. A total of 358 samples were collected from both the centres and gut contents were analysed.

Food composition and feeding habits of little tunny, Euthynnus alletteratus (Rafinesque, 1810), from the Tunisian Mediterranean coasts

2016
The stomach contents of 622 little tunny Euthynnus alletteratus, sampled between January 2008 and December 2009, were examined. Fish size ranged from 19.2 to 97.8 cm fork length, and all fish were captured in the coastal areas of Tunisian waters. Among 622 stomachs examined, 287 were empty (%VI = 46.14).

Diversity of Metazoan Parasites of the Little Tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus Rafinesque, 1810) from the Tunisian Coast of Gulf of Gabes (Mediterranean Sea)

Acta Parasitologica
Euthynnus alletteratus (Scombridae) is widely distributed in the Atlantic Ocean including Tunisian coast. This species appears to be a promising species for aquaculture due to its rapid growth and the quality of its flesh. The present study aims to identify the metazoan parasites fauna of E.
