Neuroendocrine Liver Metastasis
DeckerMed Complex General Surgical Oncology, 2019Liver is the most common site of distant metastasis in patients with advanced gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Presence of liver disease and grade and location of primary tumor are major determinants of prognosis. The clinical presentation of patients with neuroendocrine liver metastasis (NELM) depends on functional status of the primary ...

Biliary Infarction Mimicking Liver Metastasis
Ultraschall in der Medizin - European Journal of Ultrasound, 2004A 38-year-old man with a history of chronic alcohol abuse had suffered from numerous acute episodes of chronic pancreatitis in the last 7 years. Those episodes were complicated by the formation of a pseudocyst in the pancreatic head. He presented himself with vomiting and abdominal pain as well as diarrhoea for 10 days. In the ultrasound examination of

Molecular mechanisms of liver metastasis
International Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2011Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer, and is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in Japan. The majority of these deaths is attributable to liver metastasis. Recent studies have provided increasing evidence that the chemokine-chemokine receptor system is a potential mechanism of tumor metastasis via multiple complementary ...

Colorectal metastasis (liver and lung)
Surgical Clinics of North America, 2002Distant metastases are the major cause of death for colorectal carcinoma patients. Depending on the primary tumor's stage, liver metastases occur in 20% to 70% of patients and lung metastases in 10% to 20%. Unlike many other cancers, the presence of distant metastases from colorectal cancer does not preclude curative treatment.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of cancer in both men and women. The liver represents the most common site for distant metastases in colorectal cancer, and more than 60% of the patients will develop liver metastases during the course of the disease.

Liver Metastasis Presenting as Pneumoperitoneum
Southern Medical Journal, 2005A 63-year-old man presented to the emergency department with sudden-onset abdominal pain. Chest radiography demonstrated pneumoperitoneum. At surgery, the source was found to be a ruptured hepatic abscess. Cultures grew Clostridium perfringens, and biopsies confirmed metastasis of a previously resected pancreatic cancer.

Noncolorectal, Nonneuroendocrine Liver Metastasis
DeckerMed CGSO Case-Based Reviews, 2019Noncolorectal, nonneuroendocrine metastases represent a heterogeneous group with variable tumor biology. Successes in the use of hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastases has increased interest in resection of noncolorectal, nonneuroendocrine metastases.

The liver is the most common distant site of metastasis from colorectal cancer and is often the only organ affected. We hypothesized that whether distant disease is localized in the liver or is a more systemic disease, may be important in the prognosis of patients with synchronous liver metastasis.

Focal liver disease may be detected incidentally during cross-sectional imaging studies, at the time of cancer screening or follow-up and during laparotomy. Where surgery is being undertaken for colorectal cancer, for example, 26% of patients may be expected to have liver metastases and while a metastasis is the most common liver tumour detected and ...
