Diagnosis of drug induced liver injury using a lymphocyte blast transformation test based on whole blood culture

open access: yes, 1977
Twenty cases of suspected drug induced liver injury (16 cases of which satisfied the criteria for at least a query positive diagnosis as based on the Fourth Congress of "Drugs and the Liver" in Japan) were studied by the whole blood culture ...

Atrial natriuretic factor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The discovery of the first well-defined natriuretic hormone, the Atrial Natriuretic Factor (ANF), has prompted research on its impact on volume regulation in health and disease.

Volume change of segments II and III of the liver after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer

open access: yesDiagnostic and Interventional Radiology, 2016
PURPOSEWe aimed to evaluate the relationship between gastrectomy and the volume of liver segments II and III in patients with gastric cancer.METHODSComputed tomography images of 54 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Plasmodium berghei-infection induces volume-regulated anion channel-like activity in human hepatoma cells

open access: yes, 2009
Parasite infection can lead to alterations in the permeability of host plasma membranes. Presented here is the first demonstration that this phenomenon occurs in Plasmodium‐infected liver cells.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Assessment of Liver Function Using 99mTc-Mebrofenin Hepatobiliary Scintigraphy in ALPPS (Associating Liver Partition and Portal Vein Ligation for Staged Hepatectomy)

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastroenterology, 2015
ALPPS (associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy) is a new surgical technique for patients in whom conventional treatment is not feasible due to insufficient future remnant liver (FRL).

MiR‐513a promotes human erythroid differentiation by modulating c‐Jun

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
During early human erythropoiesis, miR‐513a promoted erythroid differentiation in primary human CD34+ hematopoietic stem‐progenitor cells and human TF‐1 erythroleukemic cells by indirectly decreasing c‐Jun and phospho‐c‐Jun expression, which are associated with increased GATA1 expression.

Validating graft and standard liver size predictions in right liver living donor liver transplantation

open access: yes, 2009
A formula was derived from 159 living liver donors to estimate the liver size of a normal subject in our previous study. Standard liver weight (g) = 218 + body weight (kg) x 12.3 + 51 (if male). The standard liver volume (SLV) is attained by a conversion

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
