Analysis of LNG carrier propulsion developments [PDF]
The LNG market has undergone major changes and significant development in recent years. With the increase in the number of ships and the increase in the amount of gas transported, the propulsion machinery of LNG ships has also changed. For many years, the steam turbine was the only propulsion engine on this type of cargo ship.

Regulatory gaps between LNG carriers and LNG fuelled ships [PDF]
Given a number of marine vessels treating the liquefied natural gas either as cargo or fuel, this paper examined the regulatory gaps of two different international Codes – the InternationalCodeof the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk and the International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-flashpoint ...

Scantling multi-objective optimisation of a LNG carrier
Numerous real-world problems related to ship design can be solved by various alternatives. However, the scantling design has conflicting objectives such as minimum production cost, minimum weight and maximum moment of inertia (stiffness). Therefore a multi-purpose solution had to be settled in order to meet all these requirements at once.

In tankers and bulkers, energy savings made remarkable progress after the oil crisis by means of size enlargement, speed reduction, propeller rpm reduction or switching the main propulsion plant from steam turbine to diesel engine. However, in LNG carriers, which are high-technology and high-price ships, there are many commercial requirements, and size

Reliquefaction Technology for LNG Carrier
Unlike all cargo ships, liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers have continued to use steam turbine propulsion plant despite more efficient diesel engine being available. This is because the gas that naturally evaporates from the cargo (called boil-off) is used as fuel for the steam turbines, and until recently there was no other use for it.

Present State and Task of LNG Carriers
In the field of LNG carrier, proven reliability has been regarded as the most important thing and safe operation has been kept as long as 40 years in the past. However, LNG trading is so remarkably expanding in the world that the increase of transport capacity of LNG is becoming an urgent job.
