Spectral solution of load flow equations
The load-flow equations are the main tool to operate and plan electrical networks. For transmission or distribution networks these equations can be simplified into a linear system involving the graph Laplacian and the power input vector. We show, using spectral graph theory, how to solve this system efficiently.

Analysis of the potential mechanisms of rockbursts [PDF]
Sudden slip on geological faults or other discontinuities in rock may be preceded by an initial phase of "slow" fault creep. A simple plane strain model of a suddenly loaded fault is analysed to illustrate the possible transition from stable slip ...

Finding a suitable catalyst for on-board ethanol reforming using exhaust heat from an internal combustion engine [PDF]
Ethanol steam reforming with pure ethanol and commercial bioethanol (S/C = 3) was carried out inside the housing of the exhaust gas pipe of a gasoline internal combustion engine (ICE) by using exhaust heat (610–620 °C).

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Live load distribution equations for integral bridge substructures
In this study, live load distribution equations (LLDEs) for integral bridge (IB) substructures are developed. For this purpose, numerous 3-D and corresponding 2-D structural models of typical IBs are built and analyzed under AASHTO live load. In the analyses, the effect of various superstructure and substructure properties such as span length, girder ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Identification of nonlinear kinematic hardening parameters for sheet metal from biaxial loading tests [PDF]
In this work an anisotropic material model at finite strains with nonlinear mixed (isotropic and kinematic) hardening is used for the identification of the hardening parameters of sheet steel.

Procrastination in the Workplace: Evidence from the U.S. Patent Office [PDF]
Despite much theoretical attention to the concept of procrastination and much exploration of this phenomenon in laboratory settings, there remain few empirical investigations into the practice of procrastination in real world contexts, especially in the ...
