Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

A new low-cost discrete bit loading using greedy power allocation

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we consider a low cost bit loading based on the greedy power allocation (GPA). Compared to the standard GPA, which is optimal in terms of maximising the data throughput, three suboptimal schemes are suggested, which perform GPA on subsets ...

The Distinct Elemental Analysis of the Microstructural Evolution of a Methane Hydrate Specimen under Cyclic Loading Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Submarine slope instability may be triggered by earthquakes and tsunamis. Methane hydrate sediments (MHS) are commonly buried under submarine slopes. Submarine slides would probably be triggered once the MHS are damaged under cyclic loading conditions ...

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

Radiographic follow-up evaluation of sinus augmentation with deproteinized bovine bone and implant installation after loading

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Research, 2010
Computed tomography (CT) has been used in diagnosis and implant treatment, and CT can be used to assess the dimensional stability of graft materials after maxillary sinus augmentation. A 50-year-old male patient was treated for the simultaneous placement

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
