Adaptive Random Testing by Localization
11th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference, 2005Based on the intuition that widely spread test cases should have greater chance of hitting the nonpoint failure-causing regions, several adaptive random testing (ART) methods have recently been proposed to improve traditional random testing (RT). However, most of the ART methods require additional distance computations to ensure an even spread of test ...

Local ratio is a well-known paradigm for designing approximation algorithms for combinatorial optimization problems. At a very high level, a local-ratio algorithm first decomposes the input weight function $w$ into a positive linear combination of simpler weight functions or models. Guided by this process, a solution $S$ is constructed such that $S$ is

Locality-adapted Kernel Densities for Tweet Localization
The 41st International ACM SIGIR Conference on Research & Development in Information Retrieval, 2018We propose a location prediction method for tweets based on the geographical probability distribution of their terms over a region. In our method, the probabilities are calculated using Kernel Density Estimation (KDE), where the bandwidth of the kernel function for each term is determined separately according to the location indicativeness of the term.

Local adaptation in stabilized vision
Vision Research, 1966Abstract The increment threshold for a small stimulus superimposed upon adapting spots of various diameters was measured under scotopic conditions in the peripheral retina. Confirming Westheimer (1965) , it was found that adapting spots of about 1° diameter raise the threshold more than either larger or smaller spots.

Local Adaptive Subspace Regression
Neural Processing Letters, 1998Incremental learning of sensorimotor transformations in high dimensional spaces is one of the basic prerequisites for the success of autonomous robot devices as well as biological movement systems. So far, due to sparsity of data in high dimensional spaces, learning in such settings required a significant amount of prior knowledge about the learning ...

Micro‐insurance for local adaptation
WIREs Climate Change, 2010AbstractInsurance instruments that provide economic security against droughts, floods, tropical cyclones and other weather extremes have emerged as an opportunity for developing countries in their concurrent efforts to reduce their vulnerability to weather variability and adapt to climate change. Yet, issues remain concerning the viability of insurance

Ecological genomics of local adaptation
Nature Reviews Genetics, 2013It is increasingly important to improve our understanding of the genetic basis of local adaptation because of its relevance to climate change, crop and animal production, and conservation of genetic resources. Phenotypic patterns that are generated by spatially varying selection have long been observed, and both genetic mapping and field experiments ...

A local adaptive image descriptor
New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia, 2013The local binary pattern LBP is a robust but computationally simple approach in texture analysis. However, LBP performs poorly in the presence of noise and large illumination variation. Thus, a local adaptive image descriptor termed as LAID is introduced in this proposal.

Temporal variability and local adaptation
Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 1996Gene flow is often regarded as a constraining force because it can counteract selective forces that lead to local adaptationl. Local adaptation (adaptive deme formation) can be studied relatively easily in the context of host-parasite and plant-herbivore interactions through transplant experiment+4.

Simultaneous Local Adaptation for Different Local Properties
2019This paper proposes a method of adaptation for a problem holds local optima with different properties around them. We employed neighborhood based method into Adaptive DE:JADE with a mechanism of local adaptation simultaneously at different local optima.
