Ropivacaine vs tetracaine in topical anesthesia for intravitreal injection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Aim: The object of the study was to evaluate the long term efficacy and safety of ropivacaine 0,5% vs tetracaine 0,5% for topical anesthesia in intravitreal injection of dexamethasone in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) and anti-vascular ...

Rapid quantification and PK-PD modeling of rocuronium bromide in beagles using portable mass spectrometer

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Monitoring rocuronium bromide (Rocur) concentrations is crucial for assessing muscle relaxation in clinical anesthesia. However, no suitable instruments are currently available. This study explores the application of a portable mass spectrometer (MS) for

Local anesthesia for mandibular third molar extraction

open access: yesJournal of dental anesthesia and pain medicine, 2018
Mandibular third molar extraction is commonly performed in dental clinics. However, the optimal method of anesthesia has not been established for this procedure. The conventional inferior alveolar nerve block is the most widely used method.

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Fast glycorrhachia and cerebrospinal fluid protein as predictors of sensory block in anesthesia with subarachnoid Ropivacaine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Identify if glycorrhachia and cerebrospinal fluid protein could influence the time of sensory block to T10, the duration and the metameric block's level, after a standard dose of Ropivacaine. METHODS: 80 patients, ASA I - III undergoing to

Endoscopic posterior decompression under local anesthesia for degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis.

open access: yesJournal of Neurosurgery : Spine, 2018
OBJECTIVEVarious minimally invasive techniques have been described for the decompression of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). However, few reports have described the results of endoscopic posterior decompression (EPD) with laminectomy performed under local ...

Short peptide perturbs spermatogenesis via immune microenvironment dysregulation and mitochondrial imbalance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In the blood–testis barrier, occludin is crucial for tight junctions. This study demonstrates that occludin‐targeting short peptides disrupt junction integrity, inducing immune cell infiltration, tumor necrosis factor‐α/interleukin‐6 secretion and mitochondrial dysfunction, ultimately triggering apoptosis.

Effect of isoflurane on skin-pressure-induced vasodilation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Since general anesthesia has been shown to attenuate endothelium-dependent vasodilation, it was of interest to verify whether general anesthesia would modify skin vasodilation in response to local pressure application, which is endothelium dependent.

Efficacy of Intraosseous Local Anesthesia for Restorative Procedures in Molar Incisor Hypomineralization-Affected Teeth in Children

open access: yesContemporary Clinical Dentistry, 2018
Background: Treatment of teeth affected with molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) in young patients is challenging due to chronic subclinical pulpal inflammation caused by porous enamel and exposed dentin.

American College of Rheumatology Guidance Statements for Addressing Mental Health Concerns in Youth With Pediatric Rheumatologic Diseases

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Pediatric rheumatologic diseases (PRDs) are characterized by high rates of anxiety and depression known to impact health‐related outcomes. We present guidance statements to assess and manage mental health concerns for youth with PRDs in pediatric rheumatology practice.
