The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

SVHRSP protects against rotenone-induced neurodegeneration in mice by inhibiting TLR4/NF-κB-mediated neuroinflammation via gut microbiota

open access: yesnpj Parkinson's Disease
Strong evidence indicates that remodeling gut microbiota may be an effective approach to combat Parkinson’s disease (PD). Scorpion Venom Heat-Resistant Synthesized Peptide (SVHRSP), a synthesized peptide discovered from scorpion venom, displays potent ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

Local Financial Development and the Aid-Growth Relationship [PDF]

open access: yes
With official development assistance (ODA) set to rise as countries strive to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), aid effectiveness remains an important area of development policy. An increasing number of studies support the notion that ODA can

Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

Genomic evolution of enteric pathogens: mechanisms of pathogenicity and diagnostic innovations

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Genomic evolution serves as a pivotal driver of pathogenicity and host adaptation in intestinal pathogens. This review systematically dissects, from a phylogenetic perspective, the key genomic evolutionary mechanisms underpinning pathogenesis across five

Development expenditures and the local financing constraint [PDF]

open access: yes
Focusing on the local financing constraint sheds new light on issues of aid, fiscal reform, and the management of public spending. The fungibility of aid need not translate into resource flows to fill the local financing gap.
