Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Prognosis following surgical resection versus local excision of stage pT1 colorectal cancer: a population-based cohort study: Surgical resection versus local excision for pT1 colorectal cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aims To evaluate patient management following stage pT1 colorectal cancer (CRC) diagnosis, and to determine if surgical resection improved outcome compared with local excision, within a population-based study.MethodsData were collected from the Northern ...

Perianal basal cell Carcinoma - An unusual site of occurrence

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dermatology, 2010
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common nonmelanoma skin cancer. Its occurrence in the perianal region is very rare. Awareness of its benign behavior in this region, in contrast to the earlier reports, is vital in its management.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

A rare case of recurrent primary anorectal melanoma emphasizing the importance of postoperative follow-ups

open access: yesBMC Surgery, 2020
Background Primary anorectal melanoma can be a rare differential diagnosis of anorectal mass. Due to the low case number reported in the literature, physicians are not aware of this aggressive disease.

Local excision by transanal endoscopic surgery

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2015
Transanal endoscopic surgery (TES) consists of a series of anorectal surgical procedures using different devices that are introduced into the anal canal. TES has been developed significantly since it was first used in the 1980s. The key point for the success of these techniques is how accurately patients are selected.

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Long-Term Outcomes of Patients with Poor Prognostic Factors Following Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS) for Early Rectal Cancer

open access: yesBiomedicines
Background: Transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEMS) is an organ-preserving approach for treatment of early rectal cancer (ERC). However, adverse histopathological features identified post-TEMS often necessitate adjuvant therapy.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.
