The Local Food Programme: Final Evaluation Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This is the final report of the evaluation of Local Food. It examines the extent to which the programme has addressed its over-arching aim and five main themes (see below). The report concludes by reflecting on how well the programme has achieved what it

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Inactivation effect and mechanism of ultrasound combined with ultraviolet treatment on Bacillus cereus spores

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Bacillus cereus is a common foodborne pathogen, and its formation of strongly resistant spores renders the pathogen difficult to eliminate completely using traditional sterilization methods.

The Local Food Paradox: A Second Study of Local Food Affordability in Canada

open access: yesSustainability, 2023
The price of food has been affected in recent months in response to events such as the war in Ukraine, energy costs, inflation, the COVID-19 pandemic, and climate change. Indeed, supply problems, as well as the repercussions of global issues, have had an impact on grocery bills. Just between September and October 2022, the price of food increased by 11.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Application of electron beam irradiation and mild thermal treatment of Bacillus cereus spores in Chinese braised beef cuisine

open access: yesCyTA - Journal of Food
The individual and combined effects of electron beam (EB) irradiation and thermal treatments were investigated on Chinese braised beef samples inoculated with Bacillus cereus spores.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Consistency and risk-basis of using administrative enforcement measures in local food control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Consistency and risk-basis are core elements of effective enforcement of food safety legislation. In Finland, inspections of food retail premises have been conducted since 2013 based on new national guidelines for evaluation and grading. According to the

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.
