Sensitivities of sage‐grouse to weather and climate: Implications for indicator species in a moisture‐limited ecosystem Sensibilidades del gallo de las artemisas al clima y las condiciones meteorológicas: implicaciones para una especie indicadora de ecosistemas limitados por la humedad

open access: yesWildlife Monographs, EarlyView.
Abstract Sage‐grouse (Centrocercus spp.) are considered an indicator species for sagebrush ecosystems but are declining range‐wide, resulting from a suite of anthropogenic threats that are reducing habitat availability and quality throughout the sagebrush biome.

Local Low‐Frequency Vibration Enhances Wound‐Healing and Modulates Cellular Senescence in Tissues and Exudates in a Hyperglycemic Rat Model

open access: yesThe Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hard‐to‐heal wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers and pressure injuries, pose major clinical challenges due to chronic inflammation and cellular senescence. Cellular senescence‐associated mechanisms, including stress‐responsive p53/p21 signaling and senescence‐associated secretory phenotype‐related inflammation, contribute to impaired wound ...

Playing with fire: Wolf response to active wildfires, fire fronts and smoke

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study is one of the first, to our knowledge, to explicitly examine fine‐scale behavioural responses of a large carnivore to actively burning wildfires, fire fronts and smoke. The study found that wolves balanced the potential risks and benefits associated with wildfires, with implications for predator–prey dynamics in fire‐prone regions.

Temporal Responses to Warming: Do Wild Herbivores Trade Off Heat, Predators, and Humans?

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We untangled how summer temperature, predators, and humans influenced behavioral responses in two deer species. Both reduced their daily activity level in response to warming, yet only roe deer increased nocturnality to avoid heat. Conversely, fallow deer traded off heat avoidance with predator avoidance.

Successful 22‐Hour Rescue and Release of a 19.5 M Beached Sperm Whale

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
19.5‐m‐long sperm whale was stranded on a mudflat, China on 19 April 2022. A dramatic 22‐hour rescue mission ultimately saved the whale, enabling it to swim back to sea. ABSTRACT Whales, dolphins, and porpoises are important flagship species and play a vital role in maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems. However, stranded cetaceans are often doomed if

Safety pharmacology of acute mescaline administration in healthy participants

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Psychedelics, including mescaline, may serve as novel treatments for depression and anxiety. However, data is scarce on the safety of mescaline. Methods The present pooled analysis included two double‐blind, randomized, placebo‐controlled studies with a total of 48 participants and 96 mescaline administrations. Single oral‐dose administrations (n =
