An Effective Optimization Method for Machine Learning Based on ADAM

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
A machine is taught by finding the minimum value of the cost function which is induced by learning data. Unfortunately, as the amount of learning increases, the non-liner activation function in the artificial neural network (ANN), the complexity of the ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Identifying and attacking the saddle point problem in high-dimensional non-convex optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A central challenge to many fields of science and engineering involves minimizing non-convex error functions over continuous, high dimensional spaces.

On the Number of Errors Correctable with Codes on Graphs

open access: yes, 2011
We study ensembles of codes on graphs (generalized low-density parity-check, or LDPC codes) constructed from random graphs and fixed local constrained codes, and their extension to codes on hypergraphs.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Prognostic factors for local control of stage I non-small cell lung cancer in stereotactic radiotherapy: a retrospective analysis

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2012
Background The purpose of this study is to investigate the prognostic factors of stereotactic radiotherapy for stage I NSCLC to improve outcomes. Methods Stage I non-small cell lung cancer patients who were treated with stereotactic radiotherapy between ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Recovery of compartment model parameters of dynamical systems for the epidemiological SIR model [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия Саратовского университета. Новая серия: Физика
Background and Objectives: In problems where the model of dynamical system is known and the parameters need to be determined, researchers most often encounter the problem of ”getting stuck” in local minima of the cost function.
