Narrowing the difference in dose delivery for IOERT and IOBT for locally advanced and locally recurrent rectal cancer [PDF]
PURPOSE: Intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT) has been used as a tool to provide a high-dose radiation boost to a limited volume of patients with fixed tumors with a likelihood of microscopically involved resection margins, in order to improve local ...

Predictive Biomarkers to Chemoradiation in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer [PDF]
There has been a high local recurrence rate in rectal cancer. Besides improvements in surgical techniques, both neoadjuvant short-course radiotherapy and long-course chemoradiation improve oncological results.

Impact of Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy and Surgery in Multimodal Treatment of Locally Advanced Esophageal Cancer [PDF]
Objectives: It was the aim of this study to assess our institutional experience with definitive chemoradiation (CRT) versus induction chemotherapy followed by CRT with or without surgery (C-CRT/S) in esophageal cancer.

This study integrates publicly available transcriptomic datasets to identify molecular signatures associated with response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer. By analyzing a combination of multiple cohorts with bioinformatics approaches, we reveal biological pathways and immune‐related features that may improve ...

Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

Review of Gastrointestinal Capsule Robots: Materials, Actuation, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics
This review examines gastrointestinal capsule robots through a systems engineering lens, covering shell materials, actuation and localization strategies, diagnostic modalities, therapeutic interventions, and commercialization status. By mapping the complete technological chain from fabrication to clinical deployment, this work identifies critical gaps ...

SLC8A1 deficiency in colorectal cancer cells increases intracellular calcium signaling, promoting the secretion of ANXA2‐enriched small extracellular vesicles. These vesicles reprogram tumor‐associated macrophages towards an M2 phenotype, which in turn fosters a tumor microenvironment conducive to radioresistance and is associated with poor patient ...

Essential Updates 2024–2026: Advances in Colorectal Cancer Surgery
ABSTRACT Surgical innovation in colorectal cancer is increasingly judged not by technical feasibility alone, but by whether it improves oncological outcomes, preserves function, reduces morbidity, or makes difficult procedures more reproducible. This structured narrative review examines major surgical studies published from January 2024 through July ...

ABSTRACT Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) has transformed the treatment of mismatch repair‐deficient (dMMR) colorectal cancer but produces no meaningful benefit in advanced mismatch repair‐proficient (pMMR) disease. In the neoadjuvant setting, however, pathological responses have been reported in a subset of pMMR tumors, suggesting that clinical ...
