Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

A Two-Stage Method for Decorrelating the Errors in Log-Linear Models for Spectral Density Comparisons in Neural Spike Sequences

open access: yesApplied Biosciences
In this paper, we present three log-linear models for comparing spectral density functions (SDFs) of neural spike sequences (NSSs). The logarithmic (ln) ratios of the estimated SDFs are modeled as polynomial expressions with respect to angular ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

A Common Platform for Graphical Models in R: The gRbase Package

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2005
The gRbase package is intended to set the framework for computer packages for data analysis using graphical models. The gRbase package is developed for the open source language, R, and is available for several platforms.

Standardizing effect size from linear regression models with log-transformed variables for meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2017
Background Meta-analysis is very useful to summarize the effect of a treatment or a risk factor for a given disease. Often studies report results based on log-transformed variables in order to achieve the principal assumptions of a linear regression ...

Efficient Algorithms for Scheduling Moldable Tasks

open access: yes, 2021
We study the problem of scheduling $n$ independent moldable tasks on $m$ processors that arises in large-scale parallel computations. When tasks are monotonic, the best known result is a $(\frac{3}{2}+\epsilon)$-approximation algorithm for makespan ...

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Revealing Facts and Avoiding Biases: A Review of Several Common Problems in Statistical Analyses of Epidemiological Data

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2016
This paper reviews common challenges encountered in statistical analyses of epidemiological data for epidemiologists. We focus on the application of linear regression, multivariate logistic regression, and log-linear modeling to epidemiological data ...

A COMPLETE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE LINEAR, LOG-LINEAR, AND SEMI-LOG INCOMPLETE DEMAND SYSTEM MODELS [PDF]

open access: yes
This study extends LaFranceÂ’'s (1985, 1986, 1990) previous research by deriving the necessary parameter restrictions for two additional classes of incomplete demand system models to be integrable.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...
