A generalization of a theorem of Boyd and Lawton

open access: yes, 2012
The Mahler measure of a nonzero $n$-variable polynomial $P$ is the integral of $\log|P|$ on the unit $n$-torus. A result of Boyd and Lawton says that the Mahler measure of a multivariate polynomial is the limit of Mahler measures of univariate ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Epidemiology, incidence, and survival of synovial sarcoma subtypes: SEER database analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2020
Background: Synovial sarcoma (SyS) is a rare malignancy that is typically located on the limbs and occurs predominantly in adolescents. A study in a large population for SyS comparing subtypes has not yet been reported. Methods: National Cancer Institute’

D-metric Spaces and Composition Operators Between Hyperbolic Weighted Family of Function Spaces

open access: yesCubo, 2020
The aim of this paper is to introduce new hyperbolic classes of functions, which will be called ${\mathcal{B}}^{*} _{\alpha,\;\log}$ and ${ F ^{*}_{\log}}(p,q,s)$ classes.

Log-transformed plasma level of brain natriuretic peptide during the acute phase of Kawasaki disease is quantitatively associated with myocardial dysfunction [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Pediatrics, 2011
PurposeBrain natriuretic peptide (BNP) has been considered a biochemical marker for myocarditis in Kawasaki disease. We performed this study to determine its quantitative significance.MethodsWe attempted to correlate log-transformed BNP concentrations ...

The Log-effect for p-evolution type models

open access: yesJournal of the Mathematical Society of Japan, 2008
The authors consider the Cauchy problem for the one evolution operators, that is, \[ D^2_t- \sum^{2p}_{|\alpha|=0} a_\alpha(t) D^\alpha_x u- \sum^{p-1}_{|\alpha|= 0} b_\alpha(t) D^\alpha_x D_t u= 0,\quad t> 0,\;x\in\mathbb{R}^n, \] \[ u(0, x)= u_0(x),\qquad u_t(0, x)= u_1(x).

log-Coulomb Gas with Norm-Density in $$p$$-Fields [PDF]

open access: yesp-Adic Numbers, Ultrametric Analysis and Applications, 2021
The main result of this paper is a formula for the integral $$\int_{K^N} (x)\big(\max_{i0$ represent the charges of an $N$-particle log-Coulomb gas in $K$ with background density $ $ and inverse temperature $ $. From this specialization we obtain a mixed-charge $p$-field analogue of Mehta's integral formula, as well as formulas and low-temperature ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...
