Logarithmic Spiral Coastlines

South African Geographical Journal, 1986
Abstract The 45 km stretch of coastline between Mapelane and Cape Vidal is an offset coastline which is subject to a dominant wave attack from the south-east. This section of coastline is characterized by long stretches of sandy beach alternating with rocky headlands.

Logarithmic and hyperbolic spirals associated with Schrodinger's equation

Journal of Differential Equations, 2022
Geometric properties of the solutions of the equation \[ Q''+\frac{2}{\zeta}Q'-Q+ia(\zeta Q)'=0, \quad 00\), and become singular as \(\zeta \to 0^+\) They rotate around \((0, 0)\) with \({\theta}'_j(\zeta)

Logarithmic-spiral focusing monochromator

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1976
A crystal monochromator with a logarithmic-spiral curvature has been designed as part of a low-angle x-ray diffraction camera that uses synchrotron radiation emanating from the storage ring SPEAR at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The logarithmic-spiral curvature allows a greater demagnification of the source than is permitted by a cylindrical ...

A certain feature of logarithmic spirals

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2011
A curve formed by inversion of a logarithmic spiral is called a double logarithmic spiral. The curves in this family possess the following property: there always exists such a spiral with continuous and monotone curvature satisfying any possible boundary conditions (endpoints, tangents, and curvatures).

Flying Along a Logarithmic Spiral

Science, 2000
ORGANISMAL BIOLOGY Peregrine falcons use two high performance skills—flight speed and visual acuity—to attack their prey. In a trio of papers, Tucker and his colleagues model the quantitative aspects of aerodynamic drag, assess the optimal integration of speed and sight, and present field observations of falcon flight.
