Optical fiber properties for long-haul transmission
Proceedings 27th European Conference on Optical Communication (Cat. No.01TH8551), 2002This paper addresses a number of enabling fiber properties for long-haul WDM transmission, including dispersion, dispersion slope, Raman gain efficiency, and polarization mode dispersion (PMD).

Coherent Detection in Long-Haul Transmission Systems
OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008We review the potentials and challenges of applying coherent detection in long-haul transmission systems. We compare several different coherent detection schemes from the aspects of receiver sensitivity, carrier phase recovery, and fiber nonlinearity induced penalty.

20 Gb/s optical OFDM transmission for long haul transmission
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015Optical OFDM system is considered to be the essential backbone of the next generation of ultra-high-speed networks. A dispersion effect is considered one of the common limitations in optical OFDMA system especially at very high date rate. When the pulse width reaches less than a few pico-seconds, not only the second-order but even higher-order ...

Modulation formats for undersea long-haul transmission
2008 Digest of the IEEE/LEOS Summer Topical Meetings, 2008This paper reviews recent technology advances in modulation formats and techniques for 40 G long-haul WDM transmission including RZ-DPSK, RZ-DQPSK, and polarization division multiplexing. Future enabling technologies for >100 G long-haul transmission are also discussed.

Dispersion managed long-haul soliton transmission systems
LEOS 2000. 2000 IEEE Annual Meeting Conference Proceedings. 13th Annual Meeting. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 2000 Annual Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37080), 2002The progress of dispersion managed high bit rate soliton transmission has been reviewed. Although the transmission distance for 40 Gbit/s WDM is still limited to 2000 km, further improvement is expected with advanced dispersion management and low power transmission with distributed amplification.

Spectrally-sliced Transmitter for Long-haul Fiber Transmission
Advanced Photonics 2016 (IPR, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2016We demonstrated a high-fidelity spectrally-sliced transmitter that combines parallel spectral slices to synthesize 60-GBd polarization-division-multiplexing (PDM) QPSK waveforms for long-haul (up to 4480 km) transmission with a Q2-factor of 8.71 dB.

Flexible bitrate systems for long haul transmission
Asia Communications and Photonics Conference, 2017Flexible bitrate systems basing on pragmatic QAM, hybrid formats and probabilistic shaped formats. We show that a combined symbol rate — spectral efficiency adaptation allows for highest flexible adaptation of reach, bitrate and spectral efficiency.

Distributed Raman amplifiers for long haul transmission systems
Conference Proceedings. LEOS'98. 11th Annual Meeting. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 1998 Annual Meeting (Cat. No.98CH36243), 2002We have demonstrated that the use of distributed Raman amplification offers significant benefits in terms of low noise accumulation and wide bandwidth for future long haul broadband WDM systems. In a system experiment, we successfully transmitted 10 channels at 10 Gbit/s over 7200 km.

40 Gbit/s terrestrial long haul transmission
The 15th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2003In this paper, we address enabling technologies for 40 Gbit/s terrestrial WDM and long haul systems, with span lengths of at least 80 km. The impact of modulation formats, adaptive dispersion compensation, distributed Raman amplification, and next-generation system fibers is discussed.
