Engineering model for low-velocity impacts of multi-material cylinder on a rigid boundary
Modern ballistic problems involve the impact of multi-material projectiles. In order to model the impact phenomenon, different levels of analysis can be developed: empirical, engineering and simulation models.

Impact behavior of sandwich structures made of flax/epoxy face sheets and agglomerated cork
The unremitting quest of natural and renewable materials able to replace their synthetic counterparts in high-performance applications has involved also sandwich structures.

We measure group velocity dispersion of surface waves generated by two meteoroid impacts on Mars close to the lander of the InSight mission. This allows us to probe the crustal structure in the first few kilometers beneath the InSight lander.

Low-velocity impact of pressurised pipelines
Experimental tests are reported on steel pipelines which have been struck by a relatively large rigid wedge-shaped mass travelling up to 10.4m/s. A pipeline is supported across a span, is fully clamped at both ends and is struck at the mid-span and at the one quarter span positions. Most of the pipelines are pressurised with a nitrogen gas. The initial

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Numerical simulation of high velocity impacts on thin metallic targets I and II [PDF]
Spacecraft encounter various impact phenomena in space, among which orbital debris impacts are of most concern. These impacts occur at a wide range of velocities.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Experimental investigation of impact on composite laminates with protective layers [PDF]
This paper presents an experimental study of low energy impacts on composite plates covered with a protective layer. In service, composite materials are subjected to low energy impacts.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
