The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Variability of millimeter wavelength continuum emission from Class II protoplanetary disks is extremely rare, and when detected, it is usually interpreted as originating from nonthermal emission mechanisms that relate to the host star itself rather than ...

COUNTING LOW-MASS STARS IN INTEGRATED LIGHT [PDF]
Low-mass stars (M<0.4Msun) are thought to comprise the bulk of the stellar mass of galaxies but they constitute only of order a percent of the bolometric luminosity of an old stellar population. Directly estimating the number of low-mass stars from integrated flux measurements of old stellar systems is therefore possible but very challenging given ...

X-Shooter study of accretion in $\rho$-Ophiucus: very low-mass stars and brown dwarfs [PDF]
We present new VLT/X-Shooter optical and NIR spectra of a sample of 17 candidate young low-mass stars and BDs in the rho-Ophiucus cluster. We derived SpT and Av for all the targets, and then we determined their physical parameters.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Alpha Element Populations Among Local Halo Stars
Previous studies have shown that the halo of the Milky Way galaxy is made up of two distinct stellar populations, one from dissipative collapse and the other accreted.

Carbon monoxide in low-mass dwarf stars [PDF]
We compare high resolution infrared observations of the CO 3-1 bands in the 2.297-2.310 micron region of M dwarfs and one L dwarf with theoretical expectations. We find a good match between the observational and synthetic spectra throughout the 2000-3500K temperature regime investigated.

Variation of tidal dissipation in the convective envelope of low-mass stars along their evolution ? [PDF]
Context. Since 1995, more than 1500 exoplanets have been discovered around a wide variety of host stars (from M- to A-type stars). Tidal dissipation in stellar convective envelopes is an important factor that shapes the orbital architecture of short ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
