Ages of evolved low mass stars: Central stars of planetary nebulae and white dwarfs

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
We have developed several methods to estimate the ages of central stars of planetary nebulae (CSPN), which are based either on observed nebular properties or on data from the stars themselves. Our goal is to derive the age distribution of these stars and

Constraining Snyder and GUP models with low-mass stars

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2023
We investigate the application of an equation of state that incorporates corrections derived from the Snyder model (and the Generalized Uncertainty Principle) to describe the behaviour of matter in a low-mass star.

Extreme isolation of WN3/O3 stars and implications for their evolutionary origin as the elusive stripped binaries

open access: yes, 2017
Recent surveys of the Magellanic Clouds have revealed a subtype of Wolf-Rayet (WR) star with peculiar properties. WN3/O3 spectra exhibit both WR-like emission and O3 V-like absorption - but at lower luminosity than O3 V or WN stars.

THE SNOW LINE IN VISCOUS DISKS AROUND LOW-MASS STARS: IMPLICATIONS FOR WATER DELIVERY TO TERRESTRIAL PLANETS IN THE HABITABLE ZONE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The water-ice or snow line is one of the key properties of protoplanetary disks that determines the water content of terrestrial planets in the habitable zone.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Starspot Coverage on Two New K-type Low-mass Eclipsing Binaries with Radius Inflation

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Utilizing data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and LAMOST, we present a photometric and spectroscopic investigation of two new K-type low-mass eclipsing binaries, TIC 56913729 and TIC 97729372.

Three-micron spectra of AGB stars and supergiants in nearby galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The dependence of stellar molecular bands on the metallicity is studied using infrared L-band spectra of AGB stars (both carbon-rich and oxygen-rich) and M-type supergiants in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC) and in the Sagittarius ...

Preserving chemical signatures of primordial star formation in the first low-mass stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We model early star forming regions and their chemical enrichment by Population III (Pop III) supernovae with nucleosynthetic yields featuring high [C/Fe] ratios and pair-instability supernova (PISN) signatures.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
