Compliance of Radiation Dose and Image Quality in a Nigerian Teaching Hospital with the European Guidelines for Pediatric Screen-Film Chest Radiography [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Physics, 2016
Introduction Blue light is a part of the spectrum with the highest energy content, which can reach the retina. The damage that it can cause to the retina is called photochemical or blue-light retinal injury.

Castration‐resistant prostate cancer cells are addicted to the high activity of cyclin‐dependent kinase 2

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that emergence of castration‐resistant prostate (CRPC) is associated with significant upregulation of cyclins that positively regulate cyclin‐dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and concomitant downregulation of CDK4 cyclins. This renders CRPC cells dependent on the high activity of CDK2, and CDK2 inhibitors synergistically sensitize CRPC cells to both ...

Increased Production and Molecular Weight of Artificial Polyhydroxyalkanoate Poly(2-hydroxybutyrate) Above the Glass Transition Temperature Threshold

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2019
Poly(2-hydroxybutyrate) [P(2HB)] is an artificial polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) synthesized using engineered 2-hydroxyalkanoate-polymerizing PHA synthase. In the present study, the effect of temperature on P(2HB) synthesis was investigated.

The oxygen threshold for maximal feed intake of Atlantic salmon post-smolts is highly temperature-dependent

open access: yes, 2016
In order to maximize the growth potential of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) in the on-growing phase in open sea cages, the dissolved oxygen (DO, % of air saturation) level must exceed the minimum DO required for maximal feed intake (DOmaxFI).

A role for eIF5A in translational control of stress‐inducible proteins in multiple myeloma cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of eIF5A rewires thapsigargin‐mediated endoplasmic reticulum stress responses in multiple myeloma cells by selective translation of mRNA transcripts, consequently dampening thapsigargin‐induced unfolded protein response (UPR) activation and shifting the balance from induction of apoptosis toward cell survival and proliferation.

Estimation of the lower temperature threshold and thermal requirement of Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant (Coleoptera; Coccinelidae) using Degree-Day and Ikemoto-Takai linear models [PDF]

open access: yesنامه انجمن حشره‌شناسی ایران, 2019
The mealybug destroyer, Cryptoleamus montrouzieri Mulsant is the most important natural enemy of the mealybugs. Increasing knowledge regarding ecological compatibilities of the natural enemies lead to increase their efficacy for controlling the pests. In

Temperature-Dependence of an Amorphous Organic Thin Film Polariton Laser

open access: yes, 2020
Since its first observation, the polariton lasing threshold in organic films has been anomalously high, given that Bosonic condensation should occur at vanishingly small pumping powers. Here, we investigate the temperature dependence of a polariton laser

Regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1 by p53‐ΔNp63 crosstalk modulates the DNA damage response and therapeutic efficacy in HNSCC

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) p53 and p63 exert opposite roles on the transcription regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1. Under basal conditions, p53 levels are low and p63 represses NEAT1 expression. Upon genotoxic stress, p53 is rapidly induced, displacing p63 from the NEAT1 promoter leading to NEAT1 transcriptional activation and ...

Room Temperature Ultralow Threshold GaN Nanowire Polariton Laser

open access: yes, 2011
We report ultralow threshold polariton lasing from a single GaN nanowire strongly coupled to a large-area dielectric microcavity. The threshold carrier density is 3 orders of magnitude lower than that of photon lasing observed in the same device, and 2 ...

APOBEC3 activity and DNA polymerase‐ε deficiency are associated with distinct IDH1 R132 hotspot mutations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutations are highly recurrent in multiple human cancer types, including cholangiocarcinoma and glioma. IDH1 R132C is the most common IDH1 mutation in cholangiocarcinoma and likely arises from APOBEC3A‐ or APOBEC3B‐mediated deamination.
