Is cleaning behaviour in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) parentally controlled?
Aquaculture, 2016Abstract To investigate the possible family influence on sea lice grazing of lumpfish on Atlantic salmon, nine families of lumpfish (N = 360) with a mean (± SD) weight of 169.4 ± 8.3 g were distributed among nine sea cages (5 × 5 × 5 m) each stocked with 400 Atlantic salmon with a mean (± SD) weight of 123.3 ± 12.3 g.

Osteological development of the lumpfish, inimicus japonicus (pisces: Synanceiidae)
Ichthyological Research, 1998The osteological development of the synanceiidInimicus japonicus, was described on the basis of five larvae and four juveniles (4.2–10.1 mm BL) reared in the laboratory, and two wild adult specimens. All bones, except for the basisphenoid, were formed in all larvae and juveniles, but fusions between the uppermost actinost and scapula, upper caudal ...

Genetic structure of West Greenland populations of lumpfish Cyclopterus lumpus
Journal of Fish Biology, 2016In this study, 11 microsatellite markers were used to determine the structure of West Greenlandic lumpfish Cyclopterus lumpus populations across six spawning locations spanning >1500 km and compared with neighbouring populations in Canada and Iceland. To evaluate whether data allow for identification of origin of C.

Piscirickettsia salmonis infection in cultured lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus L.)
Journal of Fish Diseases, 2017AbstractA Piscirickettsia salmonis infection was diagnosed in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus L.) juveniles held in a marine research facility on the west coast of Ireland. The main clinical signs and pathology included marked ascites, severe multifocal liver necrosis and severe diffuse inflammation and necrosis of the exocrine pancreas and peri ...

An automated separator to exclude lumpfish with deformed suckers
BioShortsSalmon farming is threatened by sea lice infestations, which impact fish health, compromise welfare and reduce market value. The use of lumpfish as cleaner fish offers a natural solution for sea lice control, but the delousing efficacy of lumpfish can be hindered by morphological deformities, particularly in the ventral suckers (suction cups) of the ...

Molecular immune responses of lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) to aeromonas salmonicida
2023Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) have been utilized to biocontrol sea-lice (e.g., Lepeophtheirus salmonis) infestations in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) farms in the North Atlantic region. Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida is a Gram-negative facultative intracellular pathogen infecting several fish species, including lumpfish.

Aquaculture, 2018
Abstract Sea lice infestations causes major economic losses in the Atlantic salmon aquaculture industry, and cleaner fish, e.g. the lumpfish, Cyclopterus lumpus L., are therefore increasingly deployed as a biological control method. However, large variations in the cleaning efficacy have been observed, and in the Faroe Islands, the most prominent ...

First record of Tetramicra brevifilum in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus, L.)
Journal of Fish Diseases, 2016AbstractA microsporidian species with 98.3–98.4% nucleotide identity to Tetramicra brevifilum (Journal of Fish Diseases, 3, 1980, 495) was diagnosed in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus, L.) broodstock held at a breeding and rearing facility in western Ireland.
