Behaviour and Dispersal of Mobile Salmon Lice When Detached From the Host

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 48, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Sea lice can flourish when salmon are farmed in open sea‐cages, necessitating treatments to control outbreaks and reduce larval export. However, mobile ectoparasitic stages can be dislodged during crowding or other procedures, and potentially reinfest farmed or wild fish.

Metabarcoding Primers for Indo‐Pacific Fishes

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 5, September–October 2025.
We compared the relative performance of five metabarcoding primers (Berry 16S, Riaz 12S, MiFish E 12S, MiFish U 12S, and Leray CO1) to recover Indo‐Pacific fish taxa. We tested the primers using template DNA from three types of samples: (1) mock communities of tissue‐based DNA extractions, (2) a semi‐natural aquarium tank, and (3) a tropical coral reef

Assessing the role of kelp for small‐scale fisheries by combining fishers' knowledge of spawning locations with modelled kelp distribution

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 8, Page 1879-1888, August 2025.
Abstract Kelp forests are found on rocky shores from polar to temperate coasts, where they provide important ecosystem services to humans. For coastal communities, kelp forests are particularly important as spawning and nursery grounds for small‐scale fisheries.

Connectivity and Population Structure in a Marginal Sea—A Review

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim The current biodiversity crisis calls for conservation measures that limit or reduce the negative human impact on key habitats and vulnerable wild populations. To effectively protect biodiversity at all levels, including intra‐specific diversity, conservation measures should, ideally, be aligned with the connectivity and genetic structure ...

Morphological and metabarcoding dietary analysis of the cunner wrasse (Tautogolabrus adspersus) revealed significant regional variation, with large overlap between its common prey species and biofouling animals living on salmonid sea cages

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 107, Issue 1, Page 143-160, July 2025.
Abstract The stomach‐less cunner wrasse (Tautogolabrus adspersus) has been experimentally used as a biological control agent for salmon lice that infest Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and to remove biofouling inside sea cages. The cunner demonstrates a strong population structure, suggesting that its diet, and therefore its usefulness for biological ...

Accumulation of Gadolinium in organs of lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus)

open access: yes, 2023

Pharmacokinetic Data Show That Oxolinic Acid and Flumequine Are Absorbed and Excreted Rapidly From Plasma and Tissues of Lumpfish

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2019
This study examined the uptake, tissue distribution and elimination of the antibacterial agents oxolinic acid and flumequine in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus L.) by use of LC-MS/MS following a single oral administration of 25 mg/kg fish given in feed ...
