Ratoon Season Rice Reduces Methane Emissions by Limiting Acetic Acid Transport to the Rhizosphere and Inhibiting Methanogens

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study finds that the interaction between ABA‐OsCIPK2‐OsSWEET1A reduces the allocation of methane producing bacteria carbon source (acetic acid) content to the rhizosphere soil of ratoon season rice, thereby reducing methane emissions. Abstract Rice paddies are a major, persistent source of atmospheric methane (CH4), emission rates depend on the ...

Alginate Lyase from Indonesian Bacillus megaterium S245 Shows Activities Toward Polymannuronate and Polyguluronate

open access: yesSqualen, 2017
Screening of alginate lyase producing bacteria associated with seaweed Sargassum crassifolium was carried out, and isolate S245, identified as Bacillus megaterium S245 was found to produce high alginate lyase activity.

One-step purification and characterization of alginate lyase from a clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa with destructive activity on bacterial biofilm [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2017
Objective(s): Pseudomonas aeruginosais a Gram-negative and aerobic rod bacterium that displays mucoid and non-mucoid phenotype. Mucoid strains secrete alginate, which is the main agent of biofilms in chronic P. aeruginosa infections, show high resistance

Identification of Sequences Encoding Symbiodinium minutum Mitochondrial Proteins. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The dinoflagellates are an extremely diverse group of algae closely related to the Apicomplexa and the ciliates. Much work has previously been undertaken to determine the presence of various biochemical pathways within dinoflagellate mitochondria ...

Two Novel S‐methyltransferases Confer Dimethylsulfide Production in Actinomycetota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies two novel S‐adenosine‐methionine‐dependent methyltransferases, MddM1 and MddM2, in actinomycetes from the Mariana Trench. These enzymes can convert toxic hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and methanethiol (MeSH) into dimethylsulfide (DMS), serving as a cellular detoxification and oxidative stress response.

Amide and Thioester Synthesis Via Oxidative Coupling of Alcohols with Amines or Thiols Using Alcohol Dehydrogenases

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) are best known for reducing ketones to chiral alcohols, but their oxidative potential is rarely exploited. Here, we show that selected ADHs catalyze newly discovered promiscuous transformations: the oxidative coupling of primary alcohols with amines or thiols, enabling the direct and efficient synthesis of a broad range of

Cloning and expression of isocitrate lyase from human round worm Strongyloides stercoralis

open access: yesParasite, 2000
A full length cDNA (1463 bp) encoding isocitrate lyase (EC 4.1.3.1) of Strongyloides stercoralis is described. The nucleotide sequence of this insert identified a cDNA coding for the isocitrate lyase.

Genetic and biochemical analyses of chromosome and plasmid gene homologues encoding ICL and ArCP domains in Vibrioanguillarum strain 775 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Anguibactin, the siderophore produced by Vibrio anguillarum 775 is synthesized from 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHBA), cysteine and hydroxyhistamine via a nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) mechanism.

Purification and Characterization of a New Alginate Lyase from Marine Bacterium Vibrio sp. SY08

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2016
Unsaturated alginate disaccharides (UADs), enzymatically derived from the degradation of alginate polymers, are considered powerful antioxidants. In this study, a new high UAD-producing alginate lyase, AlySY08, has been purified from the marine bacterium

Activation of USP30 Disrupts Endothelial Cell Function and Aggravates Acute Lung Injury Through Regulating the S‐Adenosylmethionine Cycle

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
USP30 deubiquitinates and stabilizes MAT2A, thereby regulating DNA methylation and miRNA expression, which ultimately leads to disruption of lung endothelial barrier and inflammation. Abstract Microvascular dysfunction is a key contributor to the development of acute inflammatory diseases, characterized by heightened vascular hyperpermeability and ...
