Total Synthesis of (−)-Lycorine and (−)-2-epi-Lycorine by Asymmetric Conjugate Addition Cascade

Organic Letters, 2009
Total syntheses of (-)-lycorine and (-)-2-epi-lycorine were accomplished using chiral ligand-controlled asymmetric cascade conjugate addition methodology, which enables the formation of two C-C bonds and three stereogenic centers in one pot to give synthetically useful chiral cyclohexane derivatives.

Multiple biological functions and pharmacological effects of lycorine [PDF]

open access: yesScience China Chemistry, 2013
Lycorine is the major active component from the amaryllidaceae family plant Lycoris radiate, a represent traditional Chinese medicinal herb, and is one of the typical alkaloids with pyrrolophenanthridine nucleus core. Lycorine has drawn great interest in medicinal field due to its divergent chemical structures and multiple biological functions, as well

Synthesis and antiplasmodial activity of lycorine derivatives

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2010
Twenty seven lycorine derivatives were prepared and evaluated for their in vitro antimalarial activity against chloroquine-sensitive strains of Plasmodium falciparum. The best antiplasmodial activities were achieved with lycorine derivatives that present free hydroxyl groups at C-1 and C-2 or esterified as acetates or isobutyrates.

Catalytic Asymmetric Assembly of Octahydroindolones: Divergent Synthesis of Lycorine‐type Amaryllidaceae Alkaloids (+)‐α‐Lycorane and (+)‐Lycorine

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2014
AbstractWe report the first catalytic asymmetric approach to octahydroindolones and a divergent enantioselective synthesis of perhydroindole alkaloids, as exemplified by lycorine‐type Amaryllidaceae alkaloids (+)‐α‐lycorane and (+)‐lycorine, from a common intermediate by using a highly concise route.

Lycorine and its Derivatives for Anticancer Drug Design

Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2010
Amaryllidaceae alkaloids are extensively studied for their biological activities in several pharmaceutical areas, including, for example, Alzheimer's disease for which galanthamine has already reached the market. Among this chemical family, lycorine displays very promising anti-tumor properties.

New lycorine-type alkaloid from Lycoris traubii and evaluation of antitrypanosomal and antimalarial activities of lycorine derivatives

Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
A new lycorine derivative LT1 (4) was isolated from the aerial part and bulbs of Lycoris traubii Hayward (Amaryllidaceae). Its structure including absolute configuration was established by spectroscopic analysis and semi-synthesis to be 1-O-(3'S)-hydroxybutanoyllycorine.
