Randomized preclinical study of machine perfusion in vascularized composite allografts

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study was designed to identify the optimum machine perfusion parameters for preservation of limbs before transplantation, and determine whether this was better than cold storage. Normothermic machine perfusion at a pressure of 70 mmHg (NMP‐70) provided superior preservation to cold storage after transplantation.

CD11b+CD43hiLy6Clo splenocyte‐derived macrophages exacerbate liver fibrosis via spleen–liver axis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
A population of splenic monocytes migrate into the liver and shift to macrophages, which account for the exacerbation of liver fibrosis. Abstract Background and Aims Monocyte‐derived macrophages (MoMFs), a dominant population of hepatic macrophages under inflammation, play a crucial role in liver fibrosis progression.

Comparison of the Quality of Lymphatic Vessel Images Obtained Using Two Photoacoustic Imaging Systems

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Summary:. Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) can evaluate lymphatic vessels with a high resolution (0.2 mm) compared with other methods. LUB0, a new PAI device that is smaller than the PAI-05 used since 2020 (both from Luxonus, Inc.), has been introduced.

Orthotopic liver transplantation for massive hepatic lymphangiomatosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Lymphangiomatosis is a rare malformation of the lymphatic system that causes severe symptoms secondary to progressive growth into or close to vital structures. A case report of liver failure related to this space-occupying intrahepatic mechanism is taken

Impact of Abdominoperineal Resection on Postoperative Male Sexual Function After Minimally Invasive Rectal Cancer Surgery: A Subgroup Analysis From the LANDMARC Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Abdominoperineal resection (APR) after minimally invasive rectal cancer surgery was associated with significantly higher rates of erectile and early ejaculatory dysfunction compared with anal‐sparing surgery. Although ejaculatory function showed partial recovery over time, erectile dysfunction persisted up to 12 months postoperatively.

Rising Pancreatic Cancer Incidence in Young Japanese Women and Increasing Distal Pancreatectomy in Older Adults: A Nationwide Claims‐Based Analysis From 2016 to 2023

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This nationwide claims‐based study analyzed recent trends in pancreatic cancer incidence (2016–2021) and surgery (2016–2023) in Japan. The study revealed a rising incidence of pancreatic cancer, notably among young women, and an increasing use of distal pancreatectomy among older adults.

Beyond Ultra-high Frequency: Clinical Feasibility of 10–12 MHz and Portable Ultrasound in Lymphatic Imaging

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Summary:. Lymphatic ultrasound has recently emerged as a noninvasive, contrast-free modality for evaluating lymphatic vessels, particularly as a preoperative tool for lymphaticovenous anastomosis.

Lymphatic myogenic constriction – how lymphatic vessels pump lymph uphill

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 2013
Myogenic constriction in arterioles is defined as a decrease in vessel diameter in response to increase in blood pressure. This mechanism is necessary to protect downstream capillary beds against changes in blood pressure in order to maintain an appropriate capillary filtration rate.
