Migration of Activated Lymphocytes [PDF]

open access: possible, 1993
When lymphocytes leave the primary lymphoid organs as mature but naive cells, they enter the recirculating pool, moving continuously from the blood into the secondary lymphoid organs, spleen, lymph nodes and Peyer’s patches, from which they return, directly or via efferent lymph, back to the blood (Gowans and Knight 1964).

Metabolism of activated T lymphocytes

Current Opinion in Immunology, 2014
Activated T cells undergo metabolic reprogramming which promotes glycolytic flux and lactate production as well as elevated production of lipids, proteins, nucleic acids and other carbohydrates (i.e. induction of biomass) even in the presence of oxygen.

Cytotoxic Activity of Lymphocytes

The Journal of Immunology, 1972
Abstract Antibody to human lymphotoxin was elicited in rabbits immunized with partially purified supernatants of human spleen cells stimulated by phytohemagglutinin; Anti-LT activity, assayed by neutralizing soluble LT toxicity to indicator mouse L cells, is confined to the immunoglobulin fraction of the serum; it cannot be removed by ...

Calcium and lymphocyte activation

Cellular Immunology, 1976
Abstract The role of ionized calcium in the early phases of activation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes was evaluated by stimulating the cells with a calcium ionophore A23187 (Lilly) or with mitogenic lections over a broad range of extracellular calcium concentrations ( 1000 μ M ).

The Activation of Fetal Lymphocytes

Scandinavian Journal of Haematology, 1973
Fetal lymphocytes from the cord blood of normal full‐term fetuses can be stimulated in vitro by PHA to transformation and mitotic division. The reaction kinetics differ from those of adult cells, in that the minimum G1 period is about 4 h shorter. However, the cord blood also contains a small number of lymphocytes, which enter the S period very soon ...

Human T Lymphocyte Activation

1987
The T lymphocyte receptor for antigen and histocompatibility molecules is a molecular complex comprised of five polypeptide chains. Both the 49KD alpha and 43KD beta chains are immunoglobulin-like and thus contain variable domains responsible for ligand binding.

T lymphocyte activation signals.

Ciba Foundation symposium, 1992
Activation of T lymphocytes results in immediate biochemical changes including increases in intracellular calcium levels, activation of protein kinase C (PKC) and changes in tyrosine phosphorylation. In T cells recent studies have indicated that activation of the guanine nucleotide-binding proteins p21ras is mediated by PKC, which suggests that the ...

T Lymphocyte Activation in Patients with Active Tuberculosis

American Review of Respiratory Disease, 1991
Soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) is a marker of T lymphocyte activation. We measured the amount of serum sIL-2R in 35 patients with active tuberculosis before the initiation of antituberculous treatment. Twenty had pulmonary parenchymal lesion, 8 had tuberculous pleural effusion, and 7 had tuberculous lymphadenitis.

Effects of cadmium on lymphocyte activation

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 1989
The effects of cadmium (Cd) on phytohemoagglutinin or phorbol myristate acetate-induced lymphocyte activation were investigated and a dose-dependent inhibition of cell proliferation was found. Kinetic studies revealed that the Cd-sensitive step is an early event of T cell stimulation. Failure of IL2 secretion and reduction of IL2 receptor expression in

Lipid rafts in lymphocyte activation

Microbes and Infection, 2004
The existence of sphingolipid- and cholesterol-rich membrane microdomains called "lipid rafts", as well as their role in lymphocyte biology, has been widely debated during the last few years. Plasma membrane microdomains seem to be primarily involved in initiation and propagation of the signal transduction cascade associated with lymphocyte activation.
