Chronic lymphocytic leukemia with low lymphocyte count [PDF]

open access: yesCancer, 1993
A peripheral blood absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) of greater than 5 x 10(9)/l is considered the required minimum for diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Cases with low ALC (CLL-LLC), less than 5 x 10(9)/l, have not been included in the current staging systems, and would not be suspected of having CLL, or investigated for the disease ...

Automated Lymphocyte Counts vs Manual Lymphocyte Counts in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Patients [PDF]

open access: yesLaboratory Medicine, 2011
Objective: This study was undertaken to determine if automated differential leukocyte counts (A-DIFF) can be used in place of manual differential leukocyte counts (M-DIFF) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients. Methods: Relative and absolute automated lymphocyte counts obtained from 83 specimens from 76 CLL patients were compared with ...

CD4+ T-Lymphocyte Count/CD8+ T-Lymphocyte Count Ratio: Surrogate for HIV Infection in Infants? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Pediatrics, 2012
Early diagnosis and treatment is necessary to prevent HIV-infected infants progressing to AIDS. Antibody testing is not confirmatory before the age of 18 months and PCR not widely available in resource-poor settings. We studied the accuracy of CD4(+) T-lymphocyte count, CD4% and CD4/CD8 ratio as surrogate markers of infant HIV infection. Two hundred and

A Method for Counting Phytohemagglutinin-Stimulated Lymphocytes [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1967
Abstract A technic is described for accurately enumerating the number of viable. PHA-stimulated lymphocytes in culture. This technic is both simple and fast. The technic depends upon the elimination of debris by means of the proteolytic enzyme, pronase, and the removal of cell cytoplasm by cetrimide leaving clean, intact ...

Performance Evaluation of High Fluorescence Lymphocyte Count: Comparability to Atypical Lymphocyte Count and Clinical Significance [PDF]

open access: yesLaboratory Medicine, 2018
To investigate the association between high-fluorescence lymphocyte cell (HFLC) and atypical lymphocyte (AL) counts, and to determine the clinical significance of HFLC.We compared automated HFLC and microscopic AL counts and analyzed the findings. Patient clinical data for each specimen were reviewed.A total of 320 blood specimens were included.

Absolute lymphocyte count as a marker for Cd4 T-lymphocyte count: criterion for initiating antiretroviral therapy in HIV infected Nigerians [PDF]

open access: yesNigerian Journal of Medicine, 2006
Few laboratories in resource-constrained countries can afford to perform laboratory-monitoring tests required for the implementation of HIV therapy. In this case control study, we have investigated the relevance of absolute lymphocyte count as a surrogate marker for CD4 lymphocyte count as a criterion for initiating HAARTin HIV-infected Nigerians.A ...

Prognostic Significance of Absolute Lymphocyte Count, Absolute Neutrophil Count, and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in COVID-19

open access: yesJournal of Marine Medical Society, 2021
Introduction: Effective triage of COVID-19 patients, especially in resource-limited settings, requires cost-effective and readily available markers. The present study looks at the prognostic role of three such laboratory parameters, absolute lymphocyte count (ALC), absolute neutrophil count (ANC), and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ...

Preoperative lymphocyte count in relation to sarcoma prognosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2019
Purpose: Inflammation plays a major role in tumour development, progression and metastasis. Multiple inflammatory markers such as absolute lymphocyte count, neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte–monocyte ratio (LMR) and platelet–lymphocyte ratio have been discovered as prognostic markers for various malignancies.

Lymphocyte counts in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis [PDF]

open access: yesRheumatology International, 2008
How lymphocyte counts relate to treatment-response in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) is controversial, and data on short-term variability of lymphocyte counts are lacking. Retrospective single center evaluation of disease activity and lymphocyte counts in patients with AAV, and of lymphocyte counts in kidney transplant-recipients, were ...

The Relationship of Total Lymphocyte Count to CD4 Lymphocyte Counts in Patients Infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus

open access: yesThe American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 1992
A simple, inexpensive alternative to CD4 counts would facilitate the management of asymptomatic and early symptomatic patients with HIV infection. In this report, a high correlation was found between CD4 counts and total lymphocyte counts calculated from complete blood counts in a cohort of ambulatory HIV-infected patients.
