Transitivity of Response in the Mixed Lymphocyte Culture Test

We present a model of mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) response which assumes one specificity per locus. It also assumes that an animal A will fail to stimulate animal B if, and only if, the set of specificities possessed by A is a subset of the set of specificities in B.

Rapid mixed lymphocyte culture test based on relative increase in protein synthesis

WE have developed a mixed lymphocyte culture assay for matching prospective recipients of organ transplants to donor cadavers. Its rapidity, combined with the use of frozen cells from a recipient panel, could facilitate the sharing of cadaveric organs among transplantation centres.

The correlation between MLC reactivity (LD) and serological leukocyte typing (SD) was studied in a beagle colony. Disparity for a serologically defined non-DL-A lymphocyte antigen did not correlate with MLC reactivity. Lymphocytes of colony members with common ancestors and SD identical DL-A haplotypes did not stimulate each other in the MLC.

Freezing of canine lymphocytes for use in mixed leukocyte culture and cell-mediated lympholysis tests.

A satisfactory and reproducible technique of cryopreservation of canine lymphocytes for use in mixed leukocyte culture (MLC) and cell-mediated lympholysis tests has been developed. Dimethyl sulfoxide was used as the cryopreservation agent. Cells were frozen to -50 C at a controlled rate (-1 C/min) and stored at -169 C.

Mixed Lymphocyte Culture Technique: Standardization of a Test‐System with 105 Responding and 105 Stimulating Lymphocytes per 1 ml

An MLC test system is described utilizing 105 responding and 105 stimulating lymphocytes in a total of 1 ml of culture medium. Some of the variables of the test have been evaluated and the reproducibility of the test within a given day and between days investigated according to a Workshop protocol.

[Mixed lymphocyte culture as a compatibility test for bone marrow transplantation].

The reactions in mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) between family members from 35 healthy families and 80 families of potential bone marrow recipients are shown. From the low MLC reactions seen in 128 pairs of HLA identical siblings, the limit of "Negative Reaction in Mixed Lymphocyte Culture" valid for our own laboratory can now be defined.

Accelerated mixed lymphocyte culture test potentially useful for cadaver organ transplantation.

The mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) test accurately predicts the strength of rejection of transplanted organs. Ironically, the MLC test can seldom be used in cadaver organ transplantation, where it would be most useful, because the test takes 4 to 6 days to get results.
