Lymphokine-activated killer cell susceptibility and adhesion molecule expression of multidrug resistant breast carcinoma

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2006
Reports showing susceptibility of multidrug resistant (MDR) cancer cells to immune effectors, together with P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression in immune effector subsets, including immature natural killer (NK) cells, and some activated T cells, suggest P ...

HES5-mediated repression of LIGHT transcription may contribute to apoptosis in hepatocytes

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2021
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is prototypical form of metabolic syndrome and has become a global pandemic. Hepatocytes undergo apoptosis in the pathogenesis of NAFLD.

A Review of Immunotherapeutic Strategies in Canine Malignant Melanoma

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2019
In dogs, melanomas are relatively common tumors and the most common form of oral malignancy. Biological behavior is highly variable, usually aggressive, and frequently metastatic, with reported survival times of three months for oral or mucosal melanomas

Expression of Concern: T‐LAK cell‐originated protein kinase (TOPK): an emerging prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in osteosarcoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, 2021
T‐lymphokine‐activated killer (T‐LAK) cell‐originated protein kinase (TOPK) is an emerging target with critical roles in various cancers; however, its expression and function in osteosarcoma remain unexplored.

Experimental murine schistosomiasis mansoni: estabilishment of the chronic phase of the disease

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1992
After the acute hyperergic phase of schistosomal infection, the chronic phase of the disease corresponds to the estabilishment of a relative equilibrium between the host and the parasite.

Overview of Cellular Immunotherapy for Patients with Glioblastoma

open access: yesClinical and Developmental Immunology, 2010
High grade gliomas (HGG) including glioblastomas (GBM) are the most common and devastating primary brain tumours. Despite important progresses in GBM treatment that currently includes surgery combined to radio- and chemotherapy, GBM patients' prognosis ...

Lymphokines in the rheumatoid joint [PDF]

open access: yesArthritis & Rheumatism, 1975
AbstractJoint fluids and culture supernatants of synovial tissue were examined for the presence of two lymphokines. Migration inhibitory activity was found in 16 of 22 rheumatoid fluids (73%), in 3 of 15 osteoarthritis fluids (20%), and in 3 of 11 fluids from patients with various inflammatory arthritides (27%).

Prospects for a nonliving vaccine against Schistosomiasis based on cell-mediated immune resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1987
We have designed a vaccine model based on induction of cell-mediated immunity and shown that it protects mice against Schistosoma mansoni infection. Mice are immunized by intradermal injection with schistosome antigens plus BCG.

Mechanism of pentoxifylline mediated down-regulation of killer lineage cell functions

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 1993
The authors reported recently that endotoxaemia mediated elevated levels of tumour necrosis factor (TNF-α) and interleukin-1α (IL-1α) were involved in the pathophysiology of acute heat stroke patients. Pentoxifylline (PTX) is known to modulate neutrophil

Optimizing NK-92 serial killers: gamma irradiation, CD95/Fas-ligation, and NK or LAK attack limit cytotoxic efficacy

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2022
Background The NK cell line NK-92 and its genetically modified variants are receiving attention as immunotherapies to treat a range of malignancies. However, since NK-92 cells are themselves tumors, they require irradiation prior to transfer and are ...
