Chemical lysis of cyanobacteria
We have developed a mixture of enzymes and chemicals that completely lyse cyanobacteria. Since the treatment involves only readily-available chemicals and simple proteins that degrade the components of the cyanobacterial cell wall, it can easily be used ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Donor species complement after liver xenotransplantation: The mechanism of protection from hyperacute rejection [PDF]
Hamster hearts transplanted into stable rat recipients of hamster livers (OLT rats) were hyperacutely rejected after transfer with unaltered rat antihamster hyperimmune serum (HS).

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Does Water Irrigation Control Pleomorphic Adenoma Cell Growth Better Than Saline?
Objective Sterile water irrigation is anecdotally noted as a method to lyse pleomorphic adenoma (PA) cells in the surgical bed and reduce the rate of recurrence if the tumor is ruptured.

Epsilon-aminocaproic acid for treatment of fibrinolysis during liver transplantation [PDF]
In 97 adult patients receiving liver transplants, the coagulation system was monitored by thrombelastography and by coagulation profile including PT; a PTT; platelet count; level of factors I, II, V, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, and XII; fibrin degradation ...

CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

A micro cell lysis device [PDF]
A new micromachined cell lysis device is developed. It is designed for miniature bio-analysis systems where cell lysing is needed to obtain intracellular materials for further analysis such as DNA identification.
