Cortisol and Catecholamine Concentrations Are Affected by Repeated Relocations of Adult Female Rhesus Monkeys (Macaca mulatta). [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Primatol
Data indicate that, across 3 years, significant elevations in urinary norepinephrine result from housing relocations compared to baseline (Time 1). ABSTRACT In captive primate facilities, relocations—moves, within the facility, from one cage to another—can be common events. On the one hand, relocations are generally regarded as relatively benign events,

Saccharin Metabolism in Macaca mulatta

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1971
Summary14C-saccharin was administered by gastric tube to 8 adult rhesus monkeys. The compound appeared promptly in the blood and reached a maximum value 1 to 2 hr after administration. Plasma levels and plasma clearance during the first 6 hr and urinary and fecal excretion over 96 hr were found to be independent of total dosage over a range of 0.04 to ...

Paecilomycosis in a Nonhuman Primate (Macaca mulatta) [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Pathology, 1977
Focal granulomas caused by fungi in the genus Paecilomyces occurred at subcutaneous and laryngeal sites in a Rhesus monkey. Slight wheezing was noted 8 months before the monkey died. Death was unexpected and was caused by asphyxiation after occlusion of the larynx by a fungal granuloma.

Postirradiation Creatinuria in Macaca mulatta.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1957
SummaryFour adult male Macaca mulatta, monkeys weighing an average of about 10 lb were placed on a creatine-free diet for 7 to 9 days. After the urinary level of creatine excretion had reached a plateau, the animals were irradiated with 1,000 rep of X-rays.

Respiration in Macaca mulatta (Rhesus Monkey)

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1946
Summary1. The average respiratory rate, tidal air, and minute volume were measured in 39 unanesthetized, untrained, young monkeys (Macaca mulatto,) with an average weight of 2.63 kg (a- = ± 0.41 kg, e= ± 0.07 kg).2. Expressing the tidal air or minute volume in terms of body weight in kilograms, body surface area in square meters, or body weight in ...

HIC1 suppresses Tumor Progression and Enhances CD8+ T Cells Infiltration Through Promoting GSDMD‐induced Pyroptosis in Gastric Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
These findings elucidate the innovative role of HIC1 as a transcriptional activator in GC, driving the initiation of pyroptosis and enhancing CD8+ T cell infiltration, which has certain novelty and creative significance. Collectively, targeting HIC1 can present an appealing immunotherapeutic strategy to improve outcomes in GC patients.

Linking individual variation in facial musculature to facial behavior in rhesus macaques

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Facial expression is a key component of primate communication, and primates (including humans) have a complex system of facial musculature underpinning this behavior. Human facial musculature is highly variable across individuals, but to date, whether other primate species exhibit a similar level of inter‐individual variation is unknown ...

A random encounter model for wildlife density estimation with vertically oriented camera traps

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
The random encounter model for estimating mammal densities from camera‐trap data was modified to accommodate setups with vertically oriented camera traps, which are less sensitive to vandalism and theft. A trial in Bardiya National Park, Nepal, indicated that the modified model produces credible results.
